Has anyone been working on terrain boards lately?

Hi!

Microtac makes a series of 6mm structures that can serve as fuel depots, generators or command centers. They may be useful to adorn any "battle board".

Hi all,
these are 'archive material', actually. In the good old days we had this gaming club in a rented garage in Gzira, with a showcase full of members' models, five gaming tables, club terrain... great place. At the best of times we were trying to promote Epic,  and I had prepared a few objective counters. These were (I believe) never used, so when the club folded (it now exists again in Floriana in a sadly Epic-free form) I had rescued these bits which now reside at home, waiting for the great day....
here they are.
Most are based on the old square Epic bases, and so are quite small. They are built of GW and other odds and ends. Briefly, they are:
tanks - four ends of mercury amalgam (tooth filling material) containers act as storage tanks, with a square building made of square plastic tubing, a small tower coming off an old battleship model, and an admittedly somewhat out of place antenna from the tip of an old 40K Necron gauss flayer gun.

two towers - a navigator tower to left, made of an old television knob (before the days of remote control, yes I'm THAT old); and an Inquisitorial sanctum tower to right - no prizes for guessing what it originally was.

vent - just a large brass nut stuck on a bit of plasticard, with added bits of cat litter, donated by local felines.

stack - chimney stack of an old model battleship, scuttled for the greater good of Epic. The horizontal tanks are some old unidentified kit parts.

gun and radar - I cammot id the radar bit; the dome is, I believe, a bit of plastic off a box of chocs or something. The gun comes off the poor old Imperator sacrificed to the Chaos gods.

crashed Eldar - an - um - Eldar Diplomatic Transport vehicle, crashed and lying sadly on its side. You may just see some battle damage on the hull, below the cockpit. Rescue/capture the Eldar Farseer inside! - that sort of thing.

Cheers.

I have been thinking about extending my terrain boards... just thinking...

???

Actually that is a lie... I have revisited my original 6mm terrain squares (made from 10mm cork tiles - some of them warped terribly) some of which has great cork bark rock faces, so I am making them into hills for my new terrain boards.

One of these older flatter tiles has been sprayed white in order ot make a snow based scene for some photographs.

Some of them have non-Epic40K ruins on them which I keep meaning to photograph for Chris to demonstrate you can make effective ruins without needing the plastic E40K ruins.

Anyhow onto the original poster's question here are some links to photographs of my terrain.

Actually I've just begun work on some new Epic terrain boards. My old boards were made around the E40k release as a desert theme. However, when I moved out of my parents house a couple of years ago I had to throw them out. I kept most of the teerrain features though. Also I kept painting my infantry bases sand colour. Since then I've just been using the old books and cloth with my old terrain bits on top. Ok as a stop gap measure but now I've decided to do a proper board.

The new boards are more of an all rounder. Painted in a darker ocher brown I can still use my old terrain pieces and infantry bases while getting a more versitaile board with trees and stuff. At the moment I'm just making basic things like hills, trees and rivers. Also just for fun I did some trenches and some tank dugouts.

I'm planning a large 1x1m cityfight section to put on top combined with my existing buildings and some roads the whole thing should be able to make for a substantial cityfight board as well.

Pics will be up soon in my Yahooo Briefcase here

Cheers! :)

Allright: I just snapped a few pics. Much of it is old stuff (ccityfight, ork buildings, imperial buildings) The tank dugouts and trenches are new though and the glue on the trees is still wet!

Making barbed wire: I know a lot of people swear to car body mesh for these but in epic scale I think they look awful I mean: the spikes would be like a foot long! Instead I simply use normal steel wire (is that what it is called in english?) Make sure it is not too thin otherwise it will bend out of shape the first time you acidentally drop something on it. Twist it arround something round like a pencil (though  preferably sommething thinner. To glue it on properly you need to bend the wire to follow the contours of the terrain you are placing it on. Use some photos from WW1 for reference on how a barbed wire defence should look. Lots of zig zags to confuse and trap the enemy like sitting ducks!

Cheers! :)

Cool pictures everyone...
At the moment, along with my new Titans, I'm starting a big new terrain feature (to do with the FW buildings I was asking about) that should be very cool when finished.. I hope... :;):  ..won't say any too much more about it right now, but I promise pics when its done!  :D

Warmaster - you have a great collection of terrain (and your armies damn nice too!).

I particularly like the Orc town & use of the old plastic roofs in with the E40K ruins sprues. I currently have two seperate sets, one of the card buildings and a large haul of the ruins which I'd never thought of using together in any way, but I may have to a few plastic roofs for a few pieces having seen the results!

Keep up the good work. It would be great to see a full table laid out for battle with your great terrain and miniatures, even if it would turn me green  :D

and here for Chris (and others) is photographs of my epic scale non-E40K plastic ruins ruined terrain

However this shot is not snow but unpainted, however the 10mm cork tile warped horrendously.
