Any one up for a game this Saturday (14 th) round at mine ?

Hi Frenchie

So what is the plan? Have we got 3 or 4 of us playing tomorrow?

I'm on dialysis tonight so will need to work out an army list and get my figures together this afternoon. Or should I just bring 3k of Orks?

Thanks

James

I'm doing a 1K, a 1.5K and a 3K list. This will cover all eventualities and I suggest you do same.

Currently there are three of us. That may rise to four or even five if Aging Hippy is available. But as I've got no credit on my phone I can't text him to find out. When I get some credit I'll invite him.

AgingHippy is booked to come down to Mansfield for Open War so I'd be surprised if he suddenly came free.

Hi Tim

yes it was great- thanks again to Frenchie for hosting not to mention the lovely pizza.

Frenchie and Russ took the side of Imperium (Marines and Guard) with 1,500 points apiece. Myself and Neil took my Evil Sunz Orks. Russ went for a beefed up SHT Company, with Baneblades, Ogryns and Leman Russ- kicked out a lot of firepower. He also took Bombards battery for first time although we still don't know how good they are. Frenchie had IIRc a battle company, some bikes and Termies. The Orks comprised half a dozen Blitz Brigades (most of them Big and with Supa Zap Guns, one with pair Sooper Guns and one with pair of Gunfortresses), a pair of Big KoS (bikes and skorchas) and pair of Fighta-Bommerz squadrons.

The first action of the game saw Neil roll amazingly well and kill all 3 Bombards with 3 Fighta Bommerz. Hence why we still don't know whether Bombards are any good. Then we saw what a big bunch of Skorchas can do to infantry in cover- crispy!! Frenchie did well to set up a good combat with tacticals with supporting fire from devastators- but dice gods did nt favour him and although he broke one of my Blitz Brigades he lost a lot of troops.

End of turn one and beginning on turn two saw Neil's 3 Big Blitz Brigades pound the IG Baneblades. Neil's great dice rolling saw both Supa Zzaps do 3 points of damge to both the 2 nearest Baneblades, breaking them. This was after SM Commander managed to pull off a triple attack with 2 tactical formations and teleported termies. They killed 4 Gun/Flakwagonz and damaged a Gunfortress but no boom. Crucially my Warbikes were in range and took out 3 Rhino with support FF, tipping the comabt in my favour. Although I was broken the marines had 3 formations broken in exchange- Frenchie was so unlucky with that crucial 2nd big combat.

Those were the main highlights that I recall- we finished at end of turn 3 with Orks having got blitz objective but just short of 2-3 others. The Orks were able to use their speed for Blitz Brigades and Fighter Bommerz to pick on the broken opponents. At end of turn 3 the SHT Co was broken, as was couple of SM formations, with just 1 Tactical formation unbroken. We decided that if we carried on playing that Orks would pick up at least another couple of objectives.

I thought we would struggle with the large central urban teraain, given the lack of Ork infantry I had painted up. I think the orks lucked out on a couple of crucial rolls and Frenchie had quite bad luck.

How was the tournie?

Cheers

James

Apart from getting stuck on the motorway on the way down the tournament went well. A loss and two wins put me fourth which was a bit of a surprise but three different games all against Marines.

Not that I think it would have altered the overall outcome of the battle, but I'm sure we forgot the rule about everything having to take one hit before second and subsequent hits can be applied. Meaning that the Guard should have had three Baneblades each with 2 "wounds" rather than having two destroyed. Not sure the company would have been broken in that case. I could be wrong though I'm still learning the game...

However, given the complete rout of the marines (again) and the subsequent collapse of the left flank (I mean you know you're in trouble when the fething marines are falling back and attempting to use the Guard as a strongpoint) it would only have meant that there might have been a point to playing Turn 4.

So what did the Warhounds of the Red Moon IG Regiment learn from their encounter? NEVER trust the marines with any task more important than meat shield. Case hardened cream cheese would have put up more resistance than they did. Also, demote Bombard battery commander for failing to properly deploy inside AAA umbrella.

He, he. Remember that when applying hits to a war engine formation you apply the number of hits equal to the damage capacity of the war engine and then move on to the second. I had one case over the weekend when my Super Heavy Comapany got hit 6 times in the same combat which resulted in a baneblade and shadowsword each being hit three times but the commissar's baneblade not being hit. You start again with supporting fire hits.

Thank you for the clarification, Tim. That being the case all I can say is "curse you Titan killer (D3)!"

Ah. Now TK is different. It counts as one hit for allocation purposes, so the number of damage points are all allocted to one WE unit and don't spill over onto other units.

Moral of this story, don't fire 2 death strikes at a super heavy tank company unless you really want one tank dead :)

Or you can roll higher than a three on your first dice roll. (& yes I have managed to roll double 1 against a SH Tank Company in the past.)

Neil managed to roll 3 on both Supa Zzap Gun hits- we thought that the first 3 would take out one Baneblade and the second 3 would take out second Baneblade. Was that correct?

LOL @ Case hardened cream cheese!!

Always great when the Imperials are smack talking each other!

:)
