Hello all :-)

There has been talk for some time now of running a Summer Sizzler event in Bristol (UK!) and this is me getting the dates and numbers finalised, please post expressions of interest, comments, criticisms, etc in this thread.

The Winter Warmer provides a high quality yet informal open tournament format that has thus far proved succesful and, for many people, is one of the must attend events of the year, numbers aren't capped, there is a real mix of new, irregular and experienced players and any list that people like can be used. It's also cheap and supported by a wide range of people and organisation in the Epic Community :-)
Several other events have already cropped up that allow the same freedom and the ever excellent EpicUK events calendar is more than able to cater to the tournament thirst of us all (and with new lists being released it means more oppurtunity to dust off your old and new models!). Worry not though! Winter Warmer will still be running in January 2013!

The Summer Sizzler is planned to be a different beast. Our aim is to work towards being able to provide one of the highest quality Epic Gaming Experiences that we can: deliveriny an event that is grand in scope, playability, scenery and armies and to this end we'd like to give event attendees the oppurtunity to refight...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++

THE FIRST WAR FOR ARMAGEDDON

An ash laden Hive World like no other! Players command their armies of Chaos Renegades, Traitors, Daemons, Infernal Machine Constructs and Warped Titans in depserate battle with the Imperiums finest: Centuria of Guardsmen allied with the Mighty Titan Legions of the Adeptus Mechanicus and Space Marine Chapters battle over specially constructed and themed scenery and boards.

We will model specific locations and objectives based upon a giant vinyl print out of the original 'Battle for Armageddon' board game that the players move their armies across as play proceeds: different compositions of forces will move at different rates and vie for control and conquer of the hive cities, ports, star ports, refineries and airfields. Meeting engagements in No Man's Land, objective based struggles to control resources and laying seige to population centres will all have an affect on up to TWO MEGA BATTLES! Will the primary Hive walls fall to the seige engines of chaos or will the brave Imperial Defenders be able to push the foul forces of Chaos back to whence they came? Only YOU can control their fate!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++#

CONSIDERATIONS:

We will be capping this event at 14 players. Unlike the WW we need to set some limits to really make this a stand out event. The most important of these that people will need to bear in mind are:

-That the price will rise: with the amount of work planned for this event we will need to raise the price: expect anything up to £20-25 per head to cover the costs of awesome scenery making, food, vinyl map print out and venue hire (Cut and Thrust Wargaming).

-Chaos and Imperial Armies only! Self Explanatory really! These must be fully painted and preferably to a reasonably standard! the BSS team will also be supplying a large range of specially modelled units and pre made armies (an imperial and chaos titan legion, a very large PDF/Seige Force, A World Eaters Army with specially modelled seige engines, and with luck a Space Marine force) These may be loaned to players without armies, used by the organisers as forces in their own right or spread out as allies.

-That players will need to be able to attend fully on both days of the tournament! There may be the ability for us to run the a small amount of initial meeting engagements on the Friday night if people can make it. It would be ideal if people don't have to rush off on the sunday: we need to ask for commitment to make this event work! We in Bristol will be doing our best to make sure that all tables are prepared and ready and that the weekend runs smoothly: the last thing we want is to waste time.

-That we will need an even spread of Imperial and Chaos armies: this is one of the reasons we have 'studio' forces available on loan.

QUESTIONS:

-Are you interested in such an event? Do you have the forces to take part? Would you like to come?!
-How does late August suit people? We need time to prepare models, scenery, campaign system our end but don't want to clash: perhaps this is an event for people wanting A) a double dose of epic goodness (Britcon and BSS) or B) those unable to attend Britcon
-If not Late August when would people suggest?

This sounds fantastic, I'd love to play and late august currently has no bookings - I have imperial guard tanks, working on a siegemasters/thosefellaswiththegorgonsarmy and a titan legion that includes a new and shiny EW behemoth.
I'd also be available to play friday evening and to the end of sunday.

I'd like to make a go at getting back down south for an event in august... could be a good motivation for me to paint up my CSM army + Chaos Titans.

Would be great to have both of you fella's on board :-)

I know that Myself and Ben Edgar will be there, at least a couple of other Bristol Types might want to come too.

EnC: do you not have a Space Wolves army?! How big is it if so?

Some important questions I've been asked:

Quote:
How relaxed is this going to be? As in is it going to be more of a friendly campaign style game as opposed to more cut-throat competitive tournament?

The reason I ask is that I am still a tournament virgin, so trying to find the right one to dip my toes into the water.

What sort of terrain are you going for? I do have a couple of Imperial armies based up on desert terrain.

What army lists will you be allowing? Net Ea or EUK?

BSS isn't a tournament so will probably fall in between the range of competitiveness. No tournament experience is required although I'd suggest that it might be a somewhat bewildering event for someone completely new to the game to take in: we'll be using scenario's, different types of objectives, every type of unit imaginable under the sun (including some you may never even have seen rules for). I would hope, despite everyone being friendly and lovely, that between the two factions a healthy rivalry and wish to conquer will be shown!

Terrain will be mostly ash wastes brown and, although A couple of city boards, a space port, jungle areas will also be present: all types of based and painted armies are welcome but the 'studio' armies will be based to match. If anyone wanted to construct an army specifially for the event we can give you our basing formula!

Army Lists: are as of yet undecided: we would probably wait to hear what factions each person wishes to bring, look for suitable lists, and then make sure that no cross over exists between units. It may be likely that we create our own 'tweaked' lists. For example: I wouldn't want EuK Black Legion and LatD Defilers present and would probab;y say that the LatD ones have the same stats as those in the Black Legion List. This is for simplicitys sake across the weekend. That said this isn't going to be the sort of event with fixed army lists throughout! Forces will suffer from attrition, could possibly be wiped out, will join forces, and gain reinforcements as the campaign goes on. The Weekend will be a mix between the tactical games of EA that take place and the strategic 'meta' game of campaign movement and supply: "General MoK! The Chaos Titan Legions are Advancing on Hive Hexagonical! We need the Ryzan IVth to move march north immediately with it's Shadowsword Company!" "Are you Insane Commisar Edgar?! Who will defend the Trench Network?" "Send in the Spacewolves to cut the Enemy off"! etc!

My space wolves army is mostly unpainted at this time. I might be persuadable to paint it.

Thanks MoK- sounds good.

The reason I was asking about whether Net EA/EUK army lists is that I was thinking about doing AMTL.
(If not ready in time then could do either IG or SM). So one probable for Imperial side.

What is the basing formula?

Thanks

James

It looks like I may have to sell my marine army at the moment to start up a bike wheel building business so this curently leaves us with no marines: and historically accurate forces would be grand! How many points are you thinking of painting?

Basing formula is:
Coarse Pumice from Piedra Pomez painted Dark Brown, drybrushed with Graveyard Earth and then Washed with Army Painter Medium Quickshade. Base Edges in Graveyard Earth. Patches of Green Flock. I have some of the exact flock spare in fact and would happily give it to anyone planning on doing the same bases :-)

If it's late August then that would give me 4 months worth of TOEG painting- so hopefully would have at least 2,000 points of Blood Angels. At that point I would only need one Warlord and a flight of T-bolts to hit the usual 3,000 points army size. So Blood Angels could be acheiveable.

However I have started basing them already for deesrt/wasteland terrain, which would match my Orks and IG. So would probably be best to stick with that. Mind you that should probably fit reasonably well with what terrain you are doing.

I might give that basing style a try sometime though- was thinking the other day of terrain e.g. buildings painted up with graveyeard earth.

Cheers

James

I might be tempted, there is a bit of a drought of tournaments in my neck of the woods in august/september, might be tempted to drive down for a long weekend, bring the wife and sprog, let them explore or go to the beach while I play with toy soldiers and tiny tanks.....

I'd be up for it, Means I'd need to paint a lot of chaos though, since I currently have..... very little painted. Also as a lesser historical fact, it was known that khorne encourages his followers to bring their own snow right?

DAZ: What side would you be wanting to play on mate? Don't you have a guard army in the works?

Righty...logical date consideration:

Sept 10/11/12 is Britcon...Would anyone interested in BSS also want to go to Britcon? If not we could run it that weekend.

Week after Britcon? Too soon?

Bank Holiday Weekend (24/25/26th): Oppurtunity to play through on Sunday Night till Monday Morning...but...lot's of people have other commitments on dates like these; family, friends etc. I personally am hoping to organise a cycle tour in scotland that week...
