What color do you use for your orks? what wash do you use? what color do you use to highlight them? I can't seem to get mine to look right.

Thanks,

I think I used goblin green and snot green. Scorpion green mix for highlights (if I used it at all).

I assume you mean ork skin? I'm painting up some EW tarragin for the store and found a simple method that I am very tempted to transfer to my Epic Ork army.

Undercoat white, paint sunburst yellow. 2-3 washes of Thraka Green wash. Two washes look better for larger areas of skin, but one wash may be enough for small stuff like Nob heads where you want good contrast. it makes a very nice bright 90'ies style Ork skin tone which I still prefer.

I use "Orkhide Shade" (GW, Foundation) as Base, then "Orkhide Shade" 50:50 "Sick Green" (Vallejo), then "Sick Green", then "Sick Green" 50:50 "Goblin Green" (GW) or pure "Goblin Green".

It is possible to skip the 50:50 mix of "Sick Green" and "Goblin Green". Use either one to have some colour diversity in your horde.

edit: Quickest paintjob for great Ork skin
- Paint white
- Wash with "Gryphone Sepia"
- Wash with "Thraka Green"
Done. Rewash with "Gryphone Sepia" to darken specific areas if wanted.

try this out for sh!ts and giggles, makes a lovely alternative to shading with green / brown washes... basecoat knarloc flesh (or whatever the new paint range equivalent is) and wash with leviathan purple. Use a mix of the basecoat and a touch of purple to start highlights, then move back to pure basecoat, mix in a bone white colour for subsequent highlights.

Looks lush on 28mm minis, should work a treat on 6mm too :)

Spray skull white, wash with thakka green until a desired colour is acheived, very fast, gives good clean crisp features and add white teeth.

Very good results just keep the white spray coat light to keep all detail ;)

Regards epic

Maybe a touch radical, but I use Scorpion Green highlight over a (I think) Goblin green basecoat. Very sharp contrast, but I find it works well at 6mm scale...

I had no clue how to do it when I started my horde a few years ago, the advice on the Dropship site were very helpful:
http://www.dropship.org.uk/epic/orks01.asp

The results can be seen here:

Inks are no longer available but washes are probably a better alternative.
good luck,

Some nice Orks there Denis. And agreed on the recommendation of Dropship site- I saved pictures of his Epic work a while back and used it as a reference for my army.

Since you showed grots, you may want to consider treating them differently than your orks.

For orks, I use an olive base over a white undercoat > yellow green highlight > minwax royal walnut wash.
For grots, I use a thinned yellow green base over a white undercoat > minwax royal walnut wash.
