I am deeply unhappy about all the paints being re-named. I cannot adequately state my dissatisfaction with that decision within the polite threads of taccom. I am feeling somewhat miffed about it, mildly peeved, if you will.

Yay! coat d'arms

XV-85, the day marketing ran out of words for brown.

Not XV-85 - XV-88, the color that give all your crisis suits free railguns if you paint them in it. And The Fang, the color that can only be described by naming it after a fortified mountain.

They're stupid names, but if the paint's okay I can live with them.

The names are really disturbing. At least the old variants only used the "fluff word" as the desription on front of the colour. "I painted the gun barrel in Boltgun Metal" still makes some kind of sense to somebody. "I painted the gun barrel Leadbelcher" makes no sense to anybody outside of GW's lore (and even those steeped in the lore will need to mentally cross-check each time to find out what the heck that colour is). Very dumb move imo...

I'd like to add 'Black Power' to the mix...

My observations:

Bases: Ceramite white takes two layers over black. This alone is impressive. The bases are a good compramise between opacity and vividity. They cover almost as well as Foundations, but are brighter colors. Positive.

Layers: These go on very smoothly. They 'bahave' better than the current paints. Otherwise not much to say. Positive.

Shades: Much more sensitive than Washes. I left some imperfections in the quick and dirty undercoat and they picked them right up. They left the appearance of obscuring detail in the corners, but after scraping with a blade I found it was an illusion, as the paint was in fact very thin. Nuln Oil is very black-brown, almost like a Charadon Granite in the recesses. Positive.

Drys: I really don't like these, and won't be getting any. I understand what GW tried to do; I've noticed partly dried paints are easier to drybrush with too. But they are too gummy to use effectively. Negative.

Textures: These have potential for weathering tanks (at larger scales), but they are not suitable for basing. As a way to weather, they might be good; I'd almost like to see a metallic silver Texture. Neutral.

Glazes: These have potential, and I can see some uses. I suspect if I were a better painter I'd see more. I'd need to play with them a bit to realize their potential, I think. Positive.

Overall except for the Drys I'm pleased. I'll not be running out for the Mega Pait set, but I will be buying these in time. The only problem remains the fact the colors changed (the names are irritating, but inconsequntial). But for those armies that remain half finished I'll cope, whether through other manufacturers or mapping across to best fits.

I do, but only for my pinks + bone, white and black currently. I'm planning to phase over to them entirely as my citadel paints run out.

That's okay, I'll stick with my Reaper Master Series paints. Dumped GW's Citadel paints years ago for a better paint line by Reaper and haven't been disappointed yet ;)
