The early-booking discounted cost for one individual place is £688 (groups cost less per person). The cost includes all accommodation for the nights of 13 and 14 April, all food, tutorials and instruction, and a RepRap Huxley kit for each person attending.

The discounted cost of £688 will end on 9 March 2012, after which the cost will go up to £750. Bookings close on 23 March 2012.


expensive, but you should get a working 3d printer out of it.

I've got to say, the sharp edge of the stuff they're putting out is getting steadily sharper.

Thats a lot of coin for a piece of kit that will do nothing like you intended it to do,

Best bet shell out for shapeways and let them have the hassle and get nice stuff returned, Its worth shelling out for a company to do the printing as the quality is top notch, and while doing so time goes on and the tec and machines improve for the home builder market, thus the best method is to wait out and not even consider a home printer for the foreseable future.

But i cant even use CAD programs so know nothing on this subject but i can see a pants design when i see one and that home build kit in the pictures on the link looks pants, will give bad results and will be a mixture of cheap bits that will mean machine down time and coin on spare parts

um epic, do you know the idea behind the reprap project?

It\'s an open source free replicating printer, not a company. Software is freeware, parts are creative commons, stl files are all shared and the design is a slowly improving work in progress. bit like the NetEA ect.
Basically it\'s a 3d printer that can print most of itself. The cost of the course seems to be largely getting shown how to build one by the some of the original creators - bit like spending a weekend doing list creation with Jervis - there are much cheaper ways to get one.

Quality wise I agree, they simply can\'t (and I\'m not sure can, generally) do the 6mm scale stuff we want here.
But i don\'t spend all my time here, and being able to fab larger parts for other things would be quite handy. Also, like I said, the cutting edge is getting sharper - the top level seems to be smooth to about 100microns, which is what we need.

the method used for printing is rubbish, basically squirting out hot plastic in layers. Just google some closeups of the printed parts, it's ridge city.

Still not good enough for 6mm work, but the primary limit at the moment seems to be the software used for slicing, not the printers themselves.

I agree that there is definitely a hard limit on resolution with hot plastic - the viscosity is just too damn high. Wax is a lot runnier, so the exit nozzle can be much smaller and the resolution better.
Just need to build a working prototype: http://reprap.org/wiki/Waxuum.

Still planning on cracking that reuse carrier bags problem too.

Someone invented a machine that uses heat and presure to turn waste plastic into usable oil, google something like oil into plastic and you should be able to find details and youtube videos.
