Saw a ton of super rare wamaster stuff go up on fleaBay this week and was quite excited (elf swordmasters + dragon princes, goblin fanactics + forest goblins + spider riders). That was until I looked a little deeper this weekend and saw the sellers history;

If that doesn't scream recaster I don't know what does...

I love the fact that one buyer paid £87 for six strips of recast High Elf Dragon Princes, and then stated that the £2.50 postage was a bit high. ;D

If you get them cheap enough and you know what you are buying who cares that they are recasts.

My opinion only, but.... If someone is selling these and they are not clearly labelled as recasts, then it is an attempt to defraud. Selling online means that you really have no idea about the quality of casts - these may be blank on the other side of the picture. If you are buying GW miniatures then that tells you something about the quality of them. If these are recasts and not labelled, then that is enough for me to assume that the seller is trying to increase the price by not having full disclosure. He would get a lot less cash for recasts because there is no guarantee of quality at all. It's no different than selling a fake iPod and trying to pass it off as an original.

I am selling a load of stuff on eBay right now. Included in that is a third party copy of an exclusive Transformer. I have made this clear in the title. An original would go for £80+. Mine starts at £10. Would I get more money for it if I either hid the fact that it was a copy or even tried to pass it off as an original? Sure, but it would be at best false advertising.

I understand what you are saying. The re-sell alone is a killer after you buy it.

But placing morality into something that is quite clearly capitalistic (greed is good) is only going to see a lot of talk and no action.

If you really wanted to do something, you have 2 choices:

1. Report his auctions to ebay and GW
2. Recast your own, flood the market with 0.99 items and kill the market

Without doing either, (and I am not being personal here), your opinions (whoever you are) against his/her actions don't really mean much.

That's fine. But that means that the options are basically 'beat them' or 'join them'.

Putting up recasts of my own means either labelling them properly - which won't solve the problem as it would cater to a different market, not people looking for official minis - or doing exactly the same - and compromising my own 'morality'. Reporting them means finding proof to let GW know, which is next to impossible unless I actually bought one. eBay simply don't care. Believe me, I have reported several dubious auctions over time, and eBay have rarely done a thing about it. If a business reports infringement of their own copyright, something might happen, but not from an individual who can't threaten eBay themselves.

You are right. But, I am not trying to 'stop it' necessarily. I personally don't approve. I won't be buying. That's it. If people do this, they are working until a different moral system that doesn't impact on my own or my life.

It's awkward, people need to know they are recasts, but the sellers can't say that publicly :-\

Also on the low quality, i seem to recall mention that the current SG russ casts as very poor? It could actually be possible for re-casts to be better quality than new material from GW in some instances :P
