Small update to my orky horde. The paint scheme here was something I wanted to try instead of a usual red. All credit to Reedar, my first opponent (and a total gent) at the recent FSA event in mansfield. A copy of his paint job.

still having trouble with metal, but i think next time a brown wash instead of black may be tried.

The metal looks good like the whole model
what do you want to do different
give it a rusty look?

Yeah Ulric, a rusty ill maintained look. more in keeping with orkyness. I will have a look at my 28mm fantasy army - think i used to use wask drybrush combo.

Maybe a chestnut ink over boltgun metal with highlights, add in a few black wash. Although I am open to suggestions!

For rust you could try some dry brush stippeling with bestial brown and oranges. Also try running beads of rust around and down from details.

you can also drybrush boltgun metal over a dark red basic color
then highlight with mithril silver or chainmail and give it a devian mud or chestnut ink wash

Basecoat dark steel (I use VMC Gunmetal Grey), drybrush Metal Medium, smother in Devlan Mud, drybrush Metal medium again.
Pretty damn good dirty rusty steel (o:

Looks really good man, are you going to darken the edges of the rocket exhausts? The model looks like it's missing a little something, perhaps some orky glyphs across it's side?

Blind - you are completely correct! it does indeed need glyths. i will add at a later date. Will try methods above over the weekend on another landa and see if I can get a better metal look.

I like the "retro" look of them. Brings a lot of good memories to my mind. Good job!
