SG, take a step back and look at it this way.

You get a changedoc:

It contains everything that's changed and nothing that has been missed. You take it and wade through the typo thread double checking everything got changed correctly and searching for things that were missed.

You don't get a changedoc

You wade through the typo thread double checking everything got changed correctly and searching for things that were missed.

I don't believe it'll save you much effort at all, but will require more on the part of those editing it. You still have to go into that thread either way. If you really want something I'll send you a doc with track changes enabled.

Going through a 2-3 page document with just the changes is significantly easier than sifting through a 220 page document for the changes that have been made, which will by the nature of the compendium be buried in large datasets and consist of usually a single character or word.

How does the "track changes" work? I've no problem working up a changedoc if it makes them stick out, but I personally find it easier to do as I go.

Track changes turns everything added green and everything removed red. Using the review pane you can jump from one change to the next.

...How is cutting and pasting the typo reports into a document a major hassle for the person compiling the document?

Send me the doc when it's ready and I'll try to work something up. I've no problem pitching in.

If putting together a typo document isn't a major hassle for those compiling the document it must be a minor hassle indeed for those not compiling the document... Actually, it'd probably be more help (and result in less errors) to those people compiling the document if it was provided to them, rather than vice versa.

Those people did ask everyone to keep it to typos only on the compendium topic. That didn't happen and now they're being asked to clean it up. Everyone could go back to their posts on that thread and remove anything not typo related too...

See where I'm coming from on this?

Like I said, I'll help out if need be, but it's something that simply should be done. If that means doing it myself, well, I'm okay with that.

It is a minor hassle because the person compiling the document had to read through and compile all the typo reports anyway. The people not compiling the document did not.

Since removing everything not typo-related in my post would result in pretty much nothing disappearing, I'm OK with doing exactly that.

Further note: If I enable track changes I can print just the markup (namely, just the changes). Would you rather that over the track changes SG?

Might as well go with the whole thing. It'll mean another pair of eyes; I might notice something while I'm at it.

If I printed the Big Book, then a handful of changes came through I would like to have a nice clean PDF to print and just add to my book with any hand-notes I make. I rather not have to go through a thread hunting down different typos.

the archivist/cataloguerre in me is getting a bit tweaked by all this

you have a 200+ document, you find a typo on page 13. you update the document, you publish a changelog with the document (and seperate, so people can check the changelog without having to download the whole document again)
anyone who has printed the offending pages then reprints page13 and replaces it in their binder. Done.

its simple. really, i rather suspect that the energy gone into this discussion over the last 16 pages, could probably have fixed the problem long ago.

I don't need a changelog. I compare the lists pdfs i champion with the most current Compendium pdf every time it gets updated and post the errors.
