a valid point, although you might see things differently when your baby arrives..... :P

That's why I've done the responsible thing and stepped down from most of my development positions.

I could just remain as a "forum only" developer for a while for those lists, but I think that'd be selfish.

Frogbear, you just said that you're AC of all those lists mostly because they would otherwise be orphaned?

Correct. At this point i am happy to have all three chaos lists to get some consistency. Chaos has taken a real beating these past two years to get it where it is now. My goal is to make sure we do not slip backwards by having non- active sub champs. I will get these lists where they need to be.

In essence, i feel one is practically ready for approval, and the other two are either pretty close or getting there.

One has to realise that with many of the same unit tested across various lists, not as much testing is required. As an example, to state that the Emperor's Children list requires in depth playtesting is a little silly (IMO) as most of the items have been shown to be balanced through the black legion list. Sensible judgements on the rest should see it reach approval without the mass of work that went into the World Eaters ( for example).

Further to the above, I do not think that limiting one-self to Epic:A is necessarily a good thing (even as an AC or subAC). All that will do is breed the same ideas over and over again. The great thing about 'new-blood' is new ideas. The same is true for branching out into different games - you have more to bring back at the table. The problem with that is time.

Simply put, there are not enough subs to go around it would appear.

So while it may be stated you need x games within x weeks, I believe there are very good examples of lists out there based purely on common sense and experience. As examples, Zombo and Chroma have produced some very good and what I see as balanced lists in the past and they had little to no play tests. Now are they simply prodigies, or are they just using common sense and working off the playtests and experience from other lists that they borrowed unit stats from?

Experience does play a role here.

I've still not played a full sized game, nor am i likely to in the near future. (maybe 8 months or so, if I can twist other people into it)

List writing is easy for me, but list balancing is really really really difficult.
Had I 200 games under my belt with different lists before, I'd be much more likely to be able to go, yep, looks right.

I'm not sure we should really set hard deadlines/targets on how many games are played on a particular list but we're all "part-timers" really and most of us don't have the ability to set a given number of games in at will, so leniency should be used liberally.

If people want to get their knickers in twist that a particular list isn't finished then they should pitch in and help get it finished by playing/reporting on it, otherwise if an AC/sub is taking his time then so be it. There may be many reasons why they want to do that. Maybe they want objectivity etc so prefer others to play it to give better feedback (they might feel they're too close to it etc); or maybe they want a certain number of different players to report on it. Whatever.

Personally, if someone is keen to take on a list, given the scarcity of people in this game (and especially people with the drive to take on a army/list) I think kicking someone for taking their time(or for whatever reason) is a bit harsh and only breeds bad blood and the possibilty of that person chucking in Epic altogether (personal experience had me contemplating this myself once upon a time, so I know).

We shouldn't be in a rush to get things finished if the AC/sub isn't keen on that. We need to give them space and the time they need or we're going to either burn them out and/or lose them to the community. I ask, what's worse? A list that is developmental for a couple of years or so or losing keen players to the game...?

Addendum: Obviously all of the above is in reference to people who are usually always here. If you know you can't keep a list going (you need to go away to work overseas etc or you can't be arsed etc) then for sure you should step down.
