AFAIK the finger-four formation (2 formations of two aircrafts each) is even in use today. It was invented by the Finnisch andthe Germans during the Spanish Civil War independently from each other.

Yup:

The Luftwaffe continued the use of this formation during the Battle of Britain, in which its effectiveness was shown to be considerably greater than the standard three-aircraft "Vic" close formation used by the Royal Air Force (RAF). The RAF and later the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and Soviet Air Forces adopted this formation and used it themselves against the Luftwaffe. The Finnish Air Force proved the effectiveness by achieving a 16:1 kill ratio with the finger-four during the 1939-1940 Winter War against the Soviet Air Force, which at the time used the conventional Vic formation and superior aircraft.

I guess part of the effectiveness of a finger four is that it modularized a wingman-leader relationship more easily than the Vic.

In reality, irrespective of what formations were used at the start of an air battle, most engagements rapidly descended into individual combats, and subsequently pilots would link up with any 'friendly' a/c for self-protection as much as anything else. OTOH, who knows what tactics might develop 40k years from now.

Anyhow, E:A is first and foremost a game rather than a real-world simulation. Changing formation sizes permits the use of a wider range of stats that in turn might better achieve the desired distinctions between the different a/c and formations. That said, this suggestion is quite late in the debate.

I thought my ears were burning...

Well done on reaching consensus gentlemen!

Went through it but couldn't find the cost for them. Assume 150 for 2 by default unless tweaked by list?

For the attack fighter, yes, probably a bit more for the strike fighter.

Since the content is spread over 19 pages, it's worth it to update the 1st post or create a new one w/ the summary of the stats and any other conclusions.
