I was under the initial impression that jump troops could disembark from flyers w/out them landing.
While reading the Tau book I came across, "The Orca is both a Flier and a Superheavy, and may unload jump-capable troops while moving."
Was this just inserted for completeness by the author or do only flyers that specifically state jump troops can disembark have the ability to disgorge the jump troops without landing?

I think it's a Tau ability for the unit type. It's not a common rule. Jump Troops generally have to be part of an air assault when an aircraft performs a Ground Attack.

The initial version of thet Tau army in Imperial Armor 2 had the Orca being able to deploy crisis suits without landing. That was taken out in later revisions.

yes, it's just inserted for completeness by the author Thunderhawk, Valkyries, vampyres can unload jump troops without landing, that's stated in the NetEpic Gold Rules page 24 and page 25. moreover, jump pack equipped troops can try a bail-out roll if their flying transport is destroyed while in the air (if they survive to the shot)
