Last years event was the biggest Epic event ever held with 42 players taking part over 2 days and was also voted the friendliest event of 2010 so beginner or experienced 'epicer' buy your tickets

A check shows that the EUK Championship website has 21 players listed as attending the GT last year, including Matt A. who IIRC dropped out on day two to go finish an essay. That's not as big as the 26 that came to Bristol in January this year.

It was remarked upon at the time that January's Bristol event was the largest Epic tournament in the EUK records.

I was following MoKs attendance formula of adding together the 2 days players to get the attendance, a check on the WW results also shows 22 players

MoK didn't count players twice across two days to reach the total number of players. IIRC it was 24 individuals in the tournament + 2 other individuals who came to the tournament but only played each other 3 times as they were newbies.

Day 2 wasn't a tournament, but a megabattle, and that had about 12 individuals in it IIRC.

Yes so 21 each day - 42 players

WW had 22 players (according to published results). This thread viewtopic.php?f=88&t=21611 claims 30. So presumably just added attendance for day 1+2 together - which is what I've done

You might as well say that there were 103 players because each player played 5 games. (except for Rug, he only played 3 games, so only counts as 3 players!) :-p

The most well attended two day tournament on record would be a more accurate description for last year's GT, I think.


MoK's probably counting the extra individuals who joined us for the mega battle on the second day, there (4 or so more who hadn't played on day 1 were floating around). Not particularly active players but they were asking questions and watching the game progress.

That's still 30 unique individuals across the two days, not 15 players counted twice, and not 42 (24+2+12+4) players in total. :-)

Indeed I think 21 players at a £25 2 day event is good going and represents the largest ever 2 day epic tournament, I was just reacting to what, in my opinion, were exaggerated claims of attendance and friendliness based on published reports.

If there were 30 individual players then great - EpicUk has always supported the Winter Warmer.

At least one of the people in the photo wasn't an active player, but there may have been some others out of shot IIRC.

A count on day 1 gave either 22+2, or 24+2, I can't quite remember which, but it was remarked upon at the end of the day that the attendence made WW the tournament with the most individual players that anyone could remember.

Day 2 had a few more people floating around who weren't there on day 1, which I assume MoK is counting to get to a total of 30, as if you just did 24/26 + 12 (I took a photo that has 11 active second day players in it), you get more than that.

22 + 2, then. I don't think the 2 players who entered the tourney but then pulled out to play each other all day are on that list (as that's a tournament game results lists).

At this point I'm just guessing MoK's mis-remembered when posting 30 participants. :-)
