Variant lists historically have added some new possibilities in exchange for their restrictions. So what will be the new possibilities or quirks of the Legio Destructor?

On the Lexicanum site is states that "The Princeps and crews of the Legio Destructor hunger for battle with an unusual exuberance":

Maybe we can reflect that in Legio Destructor army list? Either by a special rule. Or (my personal choice) a discount for Titan Close Combat Weapons (currently 25 points in the War Griffons list). That way you get a benefit offset by the drawback of reduced choice of Titan Waepons, and further emphasizing their differences from War Griffons, thus justifying having 2 separate lists.

Cheers

James

I am definitely looking at making CCW's free in the Legio Destructor list.

Apart from anything else, the absence of indirect firing artillery Titans (CLP) means that the CCW isn't as attractive, as that is the Titan type that uses CCW's most in the War Gryphonnes list.

Hi- I know we are not a democracy but that has got my vote. 2 distinctive AMTL lists, each with their own benefits and drawbacks, given equal weight in this Net EA supplement.

(And hope that EUK take the opportunity to start narrowing the gap between themselves and the rest of the epic community).

Thanks for listening and tweaking these lists.

So the argument is settled? Both lists will be featured in the list and background story of the supplement?

Now we only have to decide in which order those two lists will be presented in the supplement :D
Alphabetically the Legio Destructor will be first then War Gryphons but War Gryphons is the "core" NetEA Titan Legion...hmmm.

I think you can assume that somebody spending £100 or more on a titan list will carefully check ALL options.

unless sarcasm has entered the thread, in which case i plead a broken detector ;)

And thats been the core issue here - with two lists there is the risk one will be seen as optional, less than approved so to speak.
And partly what has contributed to the furore is what has been said so far, over the 8/9 pages, is that the 2 lists will not be promoted equally.

When a book is published the material in it carries more weight, i.e. its more official, than PDF's on a pc screen and printed on someones home printer...
As such this book release is contentious as its not a clear cut case, from this community at least, that there is a need for a separate Titan Legion list that doesn't, at least at the moment, offer a different flavour beyond making it more FW 40K friendly.
There's been some suggestions that LD could offer a different flavour, ie advantages and disadvantages - but this needs to be handled as if it were a variation list and not a replacement list, leaving the vanilla AMTL list the core one.

Whatever.

The goal should be to present the War Griffons and Legio Destructor lists as equals/variants of each other.

+1 to the 'as equals' comment.

That's the problem. They are not really meant to be equals.

Forgive my bluntness here but:
The War Gryphonnes is the list the wider community wants to be the core list
The Legio Destructor is the list the army champ would have liked to be the core list

The core list (War Gryphonnes) is the main list and anything else is a variant of it (as long as there is enough differentiation to make it worth while having a variant list).

Presentation is everything in this situation. It is clear that in a supplement featuring both a core list and a variant, the core list must be given prominence to avoid confusion.

Incorrect, for the NetEA project the most important list to develop was the one that made the community happiest (That being the War Gryphonnes list).

The Legio Destructor list is just the one that suits my personal preference for a more restricted, more balanced, end product. It got sidelined until such time as I was confident that the War Gryphonnes list had come about as far as it could (Which, barring a few possible special rules tweaks, it now has).

As Ulrik says, this is Epic. There's no such thing as a "core" list.

If you want to write a supplement which uses the War Gryphonnes list in a primary rather than secondary capacity, I heartily encourage you do to so.

Just to throw my small change in here, I like some of the changes (more restricted weapons/upgrade list; dual quake cannon and CLP was hilariously fun to use but possibly just a little too good, the paring down of the support options) but others I'm really not a fan of (the more restrictive weapon locations seem unnecessary, aggregating and pandering to recent GW titan releases which were never meant to be all encompassing)

If you can give the Legio Destructor something unique to compensate for what's removed from the War Gryphons list (the free TCCW is a good example, maybe an option to trade less starting void shields for a speed boost?) I think it would sit a lot better alongside the other AMTL list.

Guys- I think we risk arguing a lot over small details, whereas the main thing should be to get this supplement published and make sure that it is as good as possible.

E&C has accepted that we should have both lists in the supplement and that neither will be considered the "core" list. he has also agreed with the previous suggestion that Legio Destructor will get free TCCW. This fits in well with their background and helps differentiate them from War Griffons with drawbacks and advantages, in the same way as other variant lists in the game.

Everyone should be happy- those who want the current Net EA AMTL list in the supplement will have got their way, and those who want a more restricted AMTL list have also been catered for, and neither list will be marked as the main or core liist. There are 2 options- just choose one!!

Then we can all get behind and support E&C in his efforts.

Thanks

James
