I love the building but how people can justify paying that is crazy, Unless someone dropped it in silicone by accident and produced some more ....

I would have no idea who'd have a crazy idea like that epic, no idea at all...

Someone would have to be completely nuts to mold one of those Cathedrals. It would take almost two gallons of molding material, hours to build a proper mold box, then have to buy all the resin (which ain't cheap) to pour it. Then finding a market for such a thing? Sheesh. Even if you had, hypothetically, a group of Epic players who communicated on a daily/weekly basis and were completely obsessed with the game to the point that they spend way too much money on it; you still wouldn't be able to charge very much for them out of fear of being stuck with a mold sitting idle and all that capital being wasted. This is all just guess work, though.

No, I doubt anyone is that wacky to take on such a commitment of time and money. Silly Epic players.

Now excuse me as I return all the Legos I borrowed from my daughter's room for building a mold box about 15in x 9in x 10in.

... Hypothetically could one not just just box out the centre of the model to reduce needing so much resin, thats why i dont do solid resin buildings, I need find an epic nut thats clumbsy with these models near buckets of resin

Well, I'm no expert and I've never seen one up close, so I can't speak from personal experience... BUT!

My guess is that the layout of the building is such that boxing out the resin becomes fiddly and messy and would contribute to weakness in the actual model, especially when trying to dislodge it from a 6 kilo rubber mold that grips every ledge and doorway tightly. Hypothetically, the better way to go is to use 3-4 inexpensive 1oz plastic shot glasses in a few key locations that become buried in the resin and reduce the pouring material by a bit without coming too close to the edge of the model.

Although I may be wrong. I'm just writing to entertain.

If someone were to cast a larger complex terrian piece a brush on mold would probably be a better option than a pour mold.

Also, the mold would undergo less stress when demolding the castings and last longer, and 6 kg of material and a custom box wouldn't be required.

I was thinking the same thing, but would the silicone not need to be supported somehow when casting? I wouldn't really know how to stop it flopping about.

Also, has anyone used fillers mixed in with the resin for reducing costs? For a slightly more "ad-hoc" solution, suspending chunks of polystyrene in the resin before it sets might work (held in place by something other than hands, preferably).

Well, in my theoretical mold-pouring, I filled the cast with miscellaneous things from old yogurt pots to pieces of styrofoam and other items. The model, however, is just not big enough to make it as 'hollow' as some of you may be thinking.

I considered the brush-on-mold, but it is a really time consuming process to build the mold and shell that it needs to sit within in order to retain its shape (Smooth-On is only 15 minutes from me so I've watching all their how-to videos while sitting in their lobby).

Someone I know of keeps all their old silicone molds, then when they need filler they cut 'em up into tiny pieces and use them as the 'filler'. Since silicone bonds to silicone it works pretty good. (it's supposedly important that tin and platnium silicones aren't mixed like this do to potential inhibition cure issues)
