Then why not make sht companies a sub par choice too (because right now they're balanced nicely and are a good choice in a SL list) ?

I've never seen them used more effectively than LR Co - if anything Russ are more effective

I'm in favor of upgrade adjustments but I really don't see a need for Leman Russ or Artillery changes. They work fine in our group. Maybe splitting the Artillery smaller but I think the LR are fine. I mean if people want to run a "More Competitive" tank list there are the Minervans.

I'll be playing a game with the proposed change in a couple of hours. It'll be a big game, so I'm not going to do a full report, but I'll let you know how things go.

Just in building my list, I found the Russ upgrade to be a bit more manageable. Adding it to a MechInf company to absorb anti-transport shooting didn't seem like too bad an idea at 175 pts. Artillery Company was definitely more attractive so I'm actually taking one, as well as two Russ Companies. (it's an 8500 pt game) Despite the price drops, two things still did not find their way into my list: Hellhounds and Griffons. I think these mainly suffer due to their being no great place to add them. Their main advantage is slightly increased armor (for a Chimera hull) and the 3+ Firefight. I had added them to a Tank Company, until I realized that for a mere 50 points more I could make that armor Reinforced, as well as give each of them a Lascannon and 2 plasma cannons. The decreased speed has no effect in a Tank Co., either.

Hellhounds definitely seem like the only place they'll really fit is in a Mechanized Infantry Company, where they will contribute some firefight and long range shooting, without negating the speed of the Chimeras.

Griffons are worse. They're artillery (short-ranged, but still) so they don't quite fit in anywhere. If they could be added to a garrisoning Infantry Company it might help, but that doesn't work. The blast template is sometimes nice, but it will never really be fired indirect, and the limited range keeps it on the front lines. As a suggested change, what about making the Griffon armor 5+, like most of the other Chimera hulls? Than it wouldn't be quite so fragile, and would fit in better with the Mech companies.

I wouldn't object to a 5+ save, but note that the EA rulebook describes the Stygies VIII pattern Griffon, not the Armageddon pattern.

After a long weekend of Epic gaming at Briton I'd like to throw in that I think the Warlord is fine at 850pts. Two lists had Warlords, both finished in the top half of the rankings, the higher coming 2nd out of 17. Certainly hard to use tactically but they're rock solid and very reliable.

If any of these suggestions will take place, will the other Imperial lists which use almost the same types also change? Arty Co for 600 Points and lesser Points for LR Co sounds good for Minervans.

No, points costs vary intentionally in varient lists, and it's up to their individual sub champs to decide whether to alter them.
