Yes you have to take the Close Support upgrade and THEN the Helios upgrade :)

As was pointed out to me RAW you can give the Terminator Detachment 6 Land Raider Helios.
Choose 4 Land Raider Redeemer with the Heavy Transport upgrade. Then choose 2 Land Raider Redeemer from the Close Support upgrade. Then choose the Helios upgrade 6 times to upgrade all Land Raider Redemeers to Land Raider Helioses.

This would create an extra tough artillery formation with extra tough bodyguards (and extra expensive with 1050pts) but wouldn't go anywhere as the bodyguards (the Terminators) can't be transported anymore.

Would such a formation be abusive? Is this broken?

The intention behind the Helios upgrade was that you can only upgrade the Land Raider Redeemers/Prometheus from the Close Support upgrade to Land Raider Helioses which caps Land Raider Helioses to 2 vehicles per detachment where this upgrade is allowed.

Not a problem.

To compare to another really tough arty/blitzguard formation, a Reaver titan with 6BP and a carapace pad for IDF is 625 points in the AMTL list. Same firepower, better range, better against suppression. The Termies/Helios would be a lot tougher in other ways, but there's no way it's worth ~70% more.

Got the msg from Cal to comment ref my Salamander trial.
Short summary (on holidays using phone)

3k list:
Landraider det + 2x LR
Whirlwinds + hunter
Scouts
Terminator
Terminator + landraider/redeemer tpt
Tac Det + SC + hunter and incinerator pred + 6x LC razorbacks + sal tac upgrade.
Marauder bombers

result: 3-0 loss

Made a number of mistakes as first EA game for some time. Not enough activations, big formations were tough but swamped. Needed air tpt or pods to get sal tac or dev units into the fight.

LR det did well and took a lot of fire, may need to look at helios or titans to get more 45cm+ firepower though.

Terminators were poor due to my errors. Did miss assault cannons in late game.

Pred incinerator didn't seem that good but I guess its only 50pts. With more games I will probably see its worth more as I think cal and I miss the effects of cover in assault at times, also need to enforce zoc more during assaults and countercharge moves.

Overall it felt fine and loss was definately due to poor skill on my behalf rather than any balance issue. I want to try this again at some point but also will look at seige vanguard which is similar.

BL are you the sub-champ for this list or TRC? The version you sent me (1.13.1) seems out dated compared with TRC's version (1.14) that was prepared for the Army book 2011. Which is correct?

Hmm i`m away from my computer until thursday next week. What are the differences between 1.13.1 and 1.14?
I`m the sub-champ for Salamanders with TRC as help. TRC is sub-champ for Dark Angels with me as help.

Really? I always thought BL was Salamander AC and TRC/BL being CoAC's for Dark Angels.

One thing I remember specifically (I'm at work so going off the top of my head...) is that 1.13.1 has drop pods and 1.14 doesn't.
