Hello

Recently I became the proud owner of 130 lead marines.

Which legion should they join, I can't decide ? I also have lead tanks, rapiers, thudd guns, tarants, dreads etc to make them into a truely old school force.

Altogether I want to make a battallion size army to add to one of my Heresy plastic legions. I'm currently building the valdictors chapter from WD125 and am tempted to use them on that project but....maybe use them as command stands or...arrrrrrrh

Please help !

Are you keen for them to be Loyalist or Traitors, I think they would look good as Death Guard pre-Heresy scheme. Maybe use black undercoat with bleached bone over the top and then use a was to dirty them up a bit more once the green pads have been edged.

Cheers
Aaron

Thanks guys

Mmm. At the moment I have narrowed it down to either Emp Children, Imp Fist, Death Guard or Ultramarine. Its not the organisation thats tricky but the best colour to show of their detail. Thanks for the pic L4.

Its not the first time i've heard the Death Guard suggestion, but with red pads not green. (check out the side of the SM1 box).

Any more suggestions or examples guys ?

Thats quite a number of the old marines to score in one fell swoop.

When I painted up some of mine in Ultra Marine livery I 'pasteled' the standard Citadel Ultra Marine blue with some white.
In my opinion, the Citadel paint schemes are really designed, color wise, for the larger scale.
I have been finding that at 6mm scale the pigment gives an almost too concentrated look and tends to wash out any detail a smaller scale mini has. They just end up just looking too dark from typical 'gaming distance'
After I base coated with the lighter Ultra Marine I used a dilute black wash, when that dried I individually added highlights (kinda hard edged) with an even lighter mix of Ultra Marine and white.
My goal is the figures should not only look good close up, but look good when they are being played in a game.

For me the best thing about the AT lead beakies is that they are large enough to add details like the rank stripe on the helmets.

Hey

To win that many on ebay for so cheap ( by todays prices) was a suprise. :o I just put a max bid on and went on holiday for a week thinking that no way would I win it. One of if not the best deals i've ever had on ebay. That same day I won an Eldar legion boxset for £3.00.

Nice tips on the Ultramarines. Helmet stripes never look that good on plastic marines do they ?

I've found i'm having trouble fitting the models into square bases, tell me I don't need to trim them all down do I ?

I'm leaning towards Ultramariens ( cos their support rapiers and thudd guns look cool when painted yellow) 8)

Unfortuately they don't fit on the bases.
To base mine I just made some bases out of styrene sheet, and after I painted the Marines I super glued them to the styrene base.
Then I painted the base, when that dried I used white/pvc glue and 'painted' a layer of glue on the rectagular styrene base and sprinkled fine model railroad ballast on it.
I repeated the ballast/glue procedure about three times until the fine ballast layers 'hid' the Marines individual round bases.
