I would agree that they used to be - back when you could give them some mobility. In 40K they move as fast as Swooping Hawks, but they are hamstrung down to 15cm and no transport in Epic. Sure they have a good Armor save, but Infiltrate on a FF unit? Use it and that's just begging to have your first strike removed with a base to base sacrificial unit on their counter charge.

Huh? FF is 15 cm range and counter-charge is 5cm for 90% of stuff out there. Even when it's 10cm only somebody asleep at the wheel would let their warp spiders get in base to base in an assault they're initiating. And infiltrate is amazing on an FF unit. Are you sure you're reading it right? Warp Spiders are 350 pts w/ 2 Exarchs for a 45 cm charge range, 10 dice at 4+ FF, first strike on it too, 4+ armour and start off w/ +2 from the double inspiring. Pop them from a Serpent or a wraithgate and nobody's safe on the battlefield.
Other Eldar units that are better than similarly-costed stuff in the same list:
- Void Spinner
- Warlock Titan
- Storm Serpent + Wraithgate
- Wraithguard (when combined w/ the 2 above)

Lsrwolf, from some of your comments in this thread I'm starting to question how competitive is your local epic scene.

You busted us. We only "fight" with pillows and spit balls. No competition here, we take turns allowing the other to win.

So you see infiltrate as a way to almost make up for the movement rate that Warp Spiders should have, as opposed to using the ignore ZoC function. I would trade infiltrate for a 30cm move all day for them.

Void Spinner - agreed. Notice how efficiently these were removed from all other craftworlds.
Warlock - He da man
Storm Serpents = Death strike, spacecraft and Vulture targets. A nice distraction and effective when they are allowed to live.
Wraithguard - at 50pts per stand they had better be good enough to make one want to play Iyanden

Do other armies have a 50 pt infantry unit?

I wish the Iyanden list allowed you to swap 1:1 Wraithguard for Wraithlords. Same points and we all have so stinkin' many wraithlord models...

Warp Spiders are amazing and I suspect you might have misunderstood the infiltrate rule from what you wrote. Warp Spiders can effectively assault 45cm (30 move + 15 range) out of a webway portal.

For sure there's lots of things that can kill Storm Serpents, but you'd make sure to have 2-3 webway portals at 3-4k so a lot more in bigger games. They can't kill them all (or not straight away).

Void Spinners were always intended to be Biel-tann only incidentally - it specified so in their background - they weren't just left out of other lists because they were good.

Wraithguards w/ guardians are amazing. Not just the MW shot but the 4+ RA in an infantry stand especially to protect the soft guardians behind. And they can come out of gates of course and also wave serpents in the Iyanden list. Much, much better than wraithlords w/ their CC MW attack which they will nearly never use.

I meant competitive as in playing against many different people. There's 9, 10 of us in my club and most regularly go to tournaments (I rarely do) so we're always exposed to new trends and tactics.

As for 50pt infantry units there's all flavours of marines as Glyn said. Also, chaos termies, the 'cult' marines like death guard marines, dark eldar incubi, necron destroyers, pariahs and wraiths. Perhaps there's more if one digs enough.

I also have 30 something wraithlords which are about as useful as... well, I might convert a few to dark eldar talos, but then again I can't see myself ever using more than 4 of those or so.

Spirit Troupes that are 6 Wraithlords ? OK, I'm in. According to Carlos though, swapping 6 wraithguard for 6 wraithlords would make the unit worse, not better.

No, that's Spirit Warhosts. Spirit Troupes are still support formations. I think it'd be pretty close, actually; you're trading FF and short ranged MW for CC and medium ranged AT Lance fire. You can also beef up your Spirit Warhosts with Wraithlords for added punch if you want. You'd only need like 3 Warhosts to have enough support to use all your Wraithlords.

In the mountains of Western North Carolina. There are two of us, that's why we play huge games that take a month to complete. I think the nearest player to us would be Neal...
