The Jink save for aircraft was briefly discussed in another thread. Basically the question was whether or not "jinking" removed all of an aircrafts attacks, including defensive AA attacks. I don't think a concensus was arrived at. Good points were made either way. I lean towards jinking removing all of an aircrafts attacks, including defensive AA attacks. There is a penalty for jinking before you make your ground strike attack. You lose your ground strike attack. But once you have done so, there is no penalty whatsoever for jinking, at least under one interpretation. In other words, unless you are ground striking, why would you never jink (unless you are an aircraft that already has a 4+ or better save)? If that is the case why not just have a blanket rule that unless you are ground striking all aircraft automatically have a 4+ save to represent them jinking? It seems to me that there should be something given up for jinking and getting that 4+ save. My Thunderbolts love that jink save. No reason not to ever take it unless I am ground striking with them and thats only before they actually attack. I think the removal of any and all attacks can be siad to represent them as being to busy defending themselves, engaged in an aerial dogfight, etc. to be shooting at other targets of opportunity.

I agree with the you that it's best to have jinking no attacks equal no defensive AA attacks.

There should be a downside even after the planes have attacked and it can be assumed they are so busy jinking and diving and dodging that their gunners shots go off target (similar to in W40k where a vehicle moving at extreme speeds gets no shots - not because its necessarily not firing, but because the shots are so inaccurate as to not be represented).

Wouldn't a formation get its defensive AA before attacks are rolled against it (and so before jinking had to be declared) in some cases?

I agree with you there. They would get their defensive AA attacks before jinking if they were approached within their front AA arc. But after that they should get no more if they jink.

Gaining the benefit of the jink 4+ save should have a downside attached to it and in this case that would include the loss of their future defensive AA attacks once having jinked. Otherwise, like I said, why would anyone with an armour save of less than 4+ not ever jink (unless intending to ground strike)?

I always took the downside as not being able to attack. Whether you CAP/Intercept/Ground Attack you can't perform the given mission if you jink. In our circle, we also don't allow the choice to jink after the attack has happened (so no jinking just for your disengage).
