Hey Vaaish,

Any chance of a sneak peak at the Raven scheme?

Cheers
Aaron

I had planned on having that sneak peak up last night but a power outage from a storm conspired against me and I got zero painting done past 6:45. Anyway, that has now been fixed and here's the finished test razorback for the Blood Ravens... decals and all. I'm not 100% happy with the red though. I think that starting on a black base ended up with too dark of an overall appearance. I'm thinking that white and then using either dark flesh with a blue wash or scab red and the same technique I did here would work better and give a nicer mini. I have, however, vastly improved my mudding technique on these :)

Enjoy.

That's all sorts of badass!

You may indeed want to bring the red up a bit in tone, but the weathering is superb. Love it!

Thanks! The mudding this time was a fairly standard base starting with scorched brown and then overlaying it with graveyard earth. What I did differently was I used sponging to apply it rather than brushing or stippling like I have in the past. I also did a final layer that mixed bleached bone and graveyard earth that gives it a more fried mud look.

Mate,

It looks amazing such detail on such a simple model, it POPS big time in my books mate. Did I send vehicle bases with this batch Vaaish?

Cheers
Aaron

ah, I think those would be the gray rectangles. Were they originally in the slots for each vehicle? I saw them with some of the vehicles but not others. They must have slipped around in the foam in transit.

Mate,

Yes they are mate, must have slipped around in transit, I should have put enough in for each of the vehicles. Is there a sneak peak of the infantry coming :) I do love how dark the vehicle is, mate its bloody perfect.

Cheers
Aaron

I agree, that's definitely not Blood Raven's Red, but how did you end up painting it? I haven't figured out how to get a deep wine color like that yet. And what did you use for a sponge? Foam from a blister-package?

This time around the mini was undercoated black. Just coated it in scab red and did a white drybrush followed by a blood red drybrush before washing the entire model in delvan mud. went back and hit some edges with white and went around panels in black to sharpen contrast. After that I did a very light glaze of blood red on the highlights to give then a slight red tint without dulling them down.

The sponge was a strip left over from a pluck foam tray that I had cut to give a bit more of a point for control.

Lovely stuff as always, think I need to steal that weathering technique.
