Thanks! Well, after much more time than I'd anticipated mainly because I actually painted the metal rather than drybrushed it, the two warlords are finally done. I'm partly happy with these and partly frustrated because of some miscasting areas I didn't catch before I started painting and because I clipped a few areas with colors I didn't want on the models when I started painting the bases. Overall they worked out alright as an extension of the color scheme for the macharius but I think I should have taken into account the shadowing caused by the arms when working out the shading a bit more.

Anyway, these aren't necessarily part of the admech force. They are more intended for army lists taking a warlord outside of the admech and titan legions epic lists. Next up, three stands of wraiths which will complete phase one of my necron force. Phase two will be destroyers, another pylon, and perhaps a bit of fiddling with creating a scratch built warbarque.

As always - fantastic ! Don't want to get all embarrassing, but just to say your p'log (plus all the other great painter/modelers here) has been one of my biggest inspirations for starting up again - thanks :-)

ps - Got an unpainted mk2 warlord looking up at me from my painting table right now. Its one of my favourate minitures and 15 years without paint is a lot of expectation. I'm just giving it time to get my hand back in... :)

Thanks! As I said I'm mostly happy with them, but I've been at a little bit of an impasse with my painting lately. I feel that I'm able to hit very high tabletop and low display standard regularly and even have the technical basework laid for GD or high display quality but I just can't seem to push them over the edge so they "pop" or get quite the feel I'd like. In other words, they look alright but they are still a bit plain or lacking somewhere.

Vaaish,

Dont sell yourself short mate, your work is very impressive and I am sure you would do very well if you stepped into the GD arena. I have an army painted by you already and it is stunning, I am a very happy customer. Maybe I need to challenge you with a scheme that requires goes beyond the normal armies, maybe some Alpha Legion would do the trick.

Cheers
Aaron

Excellent work, Vaaish! What are you using for flocking on your bases?

That titan is outstanding, I think I can speak for most in wishing I had the patience, ability and attention to detail you put into all your models. You should give it a name, all titans need a name...

I think a lot of the "pop" is excessive highlighting, which makes for a good display (read, flash photography) shot but always looks artificial to me. As the others have said, don't sell yourself short - you're easily one of the top painters I've seen on here

Perhaps so, but a good bit is the detailed freehand scrollwork or other miniature paintings that help make the model visually rich. I think perhaps it's also a good bit of chiaroscuro combined with directional light that gives the pieces depth. On to the pictures though :)

First update for today. I'll be posting a full army shot here in a bit, but for now here's the shot of the finished wraiths. Thanks to scream for sending me these guys. Not much to say, but they are difficult to hold models because of the thin spine. I had to reattach several of the after accidentally mashing them and I think one might be weak and will need to be fixed if I'm not careful. All in all, I think everything turned out alright and they make a nice finish to the core cron army I've been working on. Eventually I'll add another pylon and do something for a warbarque.
