(Continued from last page) I also painted up a pair of Marauder bombers. I used the same colour scheme as for the Valkyries. The bombs and missiles are painted like the regiment's troops in honour of the brave men fighting the xenos.

I also went back to add markings to my older stuff: a Vulture squadron

and two formations of Thunderbolts:

The whole Imperial Navy contingent:

As always, thanks for watching

Nice desert scheme, the tail ID's are really good.

I bet the freehand numbering took some time and patience to do.

Great looking bunch of stuff, especially like the more subtle schems worked out on the Daemon engines back a page.

I have to admit that it did (take some time), but it really adds to the feeling of an actual army instead of a collection of models.

Glad you liked them. I aimed for a more subtle approach to the standard Khorne colour scheme.

The desert scheme is bestial brown through desert yellow with an edge highlight of khaki (by conincidence the same scheme I use for my guards' bases). The wolf grey scheme is wolf grey shaded with watered down shadow grey and edge highlight in skull white.

I thought I would add some pictures from my workbench as some more Tyranid stuff is finished for painting.

I have some Hive Tyrants to paint...

and thought I would make a second flying one as well. As you can see, I have cut off the two upper arms. These will be replaced with Forgeworld ripper wings.

When I cut off the sword arm, I started thinking about what to do with it. Then I saw this old-school Hive Tyrant, and what do you know, a "Swarm Lord" was born. I will most likely count it as a Scythed hierodule, but our gaming group also made some rules for a Tyrant Lord Supreme Commander for us to try out.

Finally, I cleaned up some of E&C lovely stuff.

There is another four on a stick. I will base them two to a base, like my previous Lictors and Raveners.

As always, thanks for watching and commenting,
Fredmans

Well. Vacation usually means work in the dictionary of a working man, just a switch of arena and this summer is no different. Anyway, me and my family is going away for a couple of weeks, and as much as I had wanted these models to be finished, I feel it disheartening to find this log on page 5 (and who knows where when I return). So, I thought I'd share the few models I have finished (sans basing).

I have been working on a few techniques to increase the contrast and depth of the colours without making it look silly, and although it takes a lot more time, I think the result turned out pretty good.

And two Zoanthropes:

Nice work on the swarm lord, looks spot on. There's definitely something creepy about those z-thropes.

All round good stuff!

So, after a long hot summer, it is finally time for an update.

I mentioned that I had worked on my contrasts, and here is the result (the ones on the left are my first attempts, the ones on the right are new). I tried to keep a richness in colour (in effect staying out of the whites), yet achieve more distinctive highlights. I found out that a mid-stage second wash was a good strategy.

Hive Tyrants - old vs new

Hive Tyrants in the red-brown and the green camo scheme:

A Winged Tyrant - I used Forge World Ripper Wings for this one (a much easier approach than my previous one which had me filing away at old 40K metal Gargoyle wings) I think they are on the edge of being too small, but still feel that they are credible enough.

...and compared with the old one.

To be continued in next post...
