Mate,

They are looking great, I am looking forward to the army list with pictures, should be a real treat. What are you looking at doing for differentiating between different GH or BC formations in the army? I am looking for some ideas, although I am a long way off I have the bug and planning is well under way.

Thanks for sharing
Aaron

At the moment it's just the usual shoulder pad markings for the different squads - the first Great Company has vertical claw marks (^, ^^, ^^^ etc - imagine these to be narrower and longer of course), but I may mark the bases differently to keep track on the table though as it will be a big grey horde once it's all done - exactly how I want them to be ;)

Are those vehicles drybrushed, or is it true fine edge highlighting? Amazing work, I can't believe you work up from Fenris Grey as a basecoat!

A base dry brushing of Shadow Grey to pick out where to paint, then just a 00 number red sable brush and a pair of glasses (my eyesight ain't what it used to be) :D

The colour combo is:

Black spray u/c
Shadow Grey - dry brush and then paint details leaving the crevices etc for shadows etc)
Shadow Grey/Space Wolves Grey 50/50 mix - paint details leaving a fine line of Shadow grey
then that same mix with 50% more Space Wolves Grey - same as above leaving the mix colour
and lastly straight SWG - hit the highlight edges only

It's ridiculously time consuming - don't get me started on the infantry! :D I'm considering dropping the second shade actually as I'm not sure it's adding anything but extra time painting. I'll have to do a test of it.... I blame Tuff Skull for inspiring me to do my army with 4-5 shades of colour after seeing his Logan Grimnar vignette/diorama - Thanks Paul ::) :D

Woof! I go with 3 colors on a good day. And that takes me ages. But then I've always been a slow painter to start with...

Hey, I might not comment much, but I'm still here watching regularly!

Great work. As for being to "blame", I am more than happy (honoured in fact!) to take responsibility for setting you on your way to an awesome army. It looks great & Reminds me what I should be doing with my own guys - I heartily admire your commitment to it. Keep it up!

Pull yer finger out, Sir! :D

BTW Paul, do you have any hi-res (300DPI) pics of your Grimnar tutorial by any chance? I'd love to use them in Epic:Nemesis' modelling section.

The ones which are on the site are all I have for the MKI article. However, The article which is currently on the hobbybrush only covers the making of the first version.

I'm pretty sure I did an article for the MKII (the fanatic award jobby) as well, which has never made it onto the new site. But it should be hidden on a back-up disc somewhere. I'll have a look for it as those pics should be larger & better (and of a better model!).

I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to go through the back-ups, but Poke me to remind me if you haven't heard back about it in a week or so :)

Mate,

That is an awesome looking detachment mate, such detail, absolutely fantastic mate. Great command stand, the detail on the banners is over the top mate.

Cheers
Aaron

Your images were hurting my eyes with the blue tint. I hope you don't mind my doing a bit of clean up on them:

Sorry Vaaish, it's the only lighting set up I have. Did you do that in PS?

It's probably your camera is set to the wrong white balance more than anything with the light setup. It looks like you might have it set to tungsten or whatever is typical for your incandescent lights and you took the photos using florescent lights. Yeah, I put a few adjustment layers on top of the images to pull out the blue-green and up the lighting a bit.
