Cool! It's just a piece of diffraction grating sandwiched between the arches?

Sort of. It's something called Multi-Layer Optical Film. Used to be made by 3M and I bought a sample pack years ago (to make "domes" for my 40k Eldar Guardians to simulate the Conceal Warlock power). I don't think 3M makes it anymore but the technology is still used in other film products like this one: http://solutions.3m.com.sg/wps/portal/3 ... ystalline/

The net result is a film that reflects/transmits light in different angles depending on wavelength. So if you move your head across 180 degrees in front of the gate (half circle), you get all colours of the rainbow. Very chaosy...

Cross-post from blog:

Well, March was a miserable month on the painting front. My parcel from Maelstrom Games never arrived and hence I had no brown, blue or purple washes (needed to complete any one of the remaining Chaos models…). I only managed 1180 points and four objectives.

18 Khorne Land Transports – 180 points

22 Nurgle Plague Zombies – ~350 points

4 Nurgle Contagion Engines – 325 points

1 Nurgle Plague Tower – 325 points

1 Nurgle Objective

1 Tzeentch Objective

1 Slaneesh Objective

1 Generic Chaos Objective

Lack of painting supplies made me finish a few more grass terrain tiles (4′x2′) and finish a few Mordheim buildings (pics coming soon). But that doesn’t really count for ToEG. Will do better in April…

Loving those Tzeentch objectives. Some great ideas in this thread.

My package from Maelstrom Games has finally arrived. Paints are re-stocked and the final sprint for the chaos legion can begin. 32 models left to paint (out of 653). I have a few more chaos marines coming from the UK, so that will add another 26 bases to the "to do list". Still I am tackling the final 10% here :)

I did some Mordheim buildings while waiting for the paints to arrive. Wrong forum section but have a peak if you like 28mm houses: http://wargamingworkshop.wordpress.com/ ... ist-tower/

I am mostly done with the Tzeentchian air force but need some input on painting choices. Below are the wip Firelords. I need a colour choice for the central "engine" area on top of the wing (the ripped surface). For the Slaneesh knights I used Scorpion Green followed by Thraka Green washes to create a green "power coil" look. The alternative for Tzeentch might be yellow with a red wash to create an orange power coil (to tie in with the yellow/orange accents of the rest of the Tzeentch force). Any suggestions?

Not sure on the colour (yellow is usually best when against blue) however those skulls on the Firelords look absolutely brilliant!

Can you give us a breakdown on how you came to that effect? Was it simply painting the colours on?

The skulls are dead-easy:
Dheneb Stone basecoat (over black)
Devlan Mud wash all over
Dheneb Stone/Skull White highlights for the raised parts (a thinned down mix)
Devland Mud glaze over everything to tie it together

More examples of the just finished Doomwings:

Slaneesh is DONE!

Pink rides for the Coven and some Hellhounds for fiery support.
