Thanks, BL.

They had their combat debut this weekend, which was less than stellar, to say the least. The first was an artillery range test battle against Dwarf Supreme's squats:

Off-board formations, hellblades and termies:

Arrayed for battle:

Covering the blitz against Tim's marauding trikes:

Oh so close. Termies after a victorious engagement against super-warrior formation number umptysquat, but unable to do anything against the goliaths:

The opposition:

Cyclops (didn't take part in this battle):

I stopped taking pictures after the termies broke and failed to rally. I didn't want my shame to be recorded. Unfortunately, it made the papers:

Give yourself some credit. Our game went to turn 4.

You've got a point, DS. Keep in mind I wrote that post after the second battle, the results of which affected my attitude toward this one.

For the second battle, uberchris and I teamed up against Dave's Subjugators in a 4k battle. 'Twas a truly inspiring partnership of Iron Warriors and Emperor's Children, and display of pink and yellow and black chevrons, until turn 1 started. Dave took 3 formations of t-bolts to our 2 of hell talons and no AA, and he took a warlord... he never takes big titans... the highlights from the chaos side of things were our sarcastic comments throughout, namely:
my constantly blaming uberchris for poor list construction (we both constructed the list)
Uberchris: "you are the worst ally ever"
[later] captPiett, after killing 2 attack bikes with a sustain to protect the blitz: "That's how you get it DONE!" [more humorous when you add in the 'in your face' delivery]

needless to say, all records of this battle were purged back on the respective daemon-worlds of the IW and EC :P

ah, I see your problem here, your termies are facing the wrong way. How do you expect them to shoot stuff that's behind them?

Hm, Dave's wonderful bazillion formations of thunderbolts. It's an arms race you just can't win :(

Some more WIP pics:

Being a couple daemonic beasts short of 10, I got creative in filling out their numbers. Instead of using more meat puppet discs, I turned to the Malifaux range, because they have some good small stuff. Not really into the game at all, but the quality of the casting is really good.

Steampunk arachnids and Hoar Cats based up (the latter name just seems appropriate for some reason, given the army):

Arachnids basically done:

These have the benefit of being suitably creepy/evil, and only having 4 legs each, allowing me to look at them without getting the heebee-jeebees.

A few posts back, I alluded to the noise marines needing transport. How do they get around the battlefield? The answer, like most things 40K universe-wise, lay back in the mists of time, during the siege of Terra. We all know that while less enlightened traitor legions were off doing silly things like trying to kill the Emperor, the Emperor's Children were doing yeoman service, roving the planet gathering data on the effects of specially derived combat drugs and sonic stimulation. Once the subjects of this most important research became scarce, the noise marines had to resort to other methods, including offering incentives to the citizenry:

These ancient pict-feed grabs show the early examples of such efforts:

The EC's "sketchy van" corps was born!

Only the most gullible of imperial citizens fell for such crude measures, so as the siege wore on, their markings and upgrades grew more advanced:

Truly excellent examples of 31st millennium engineering and coolness. Many a Terran was lured to his/her doom by the mere sight of these machines. When the EC fled to the eye of terror, some of the sketch van corps survived the long retreat.
Therefore, two of my noise marine upgrades will be transported in sketchy vans (rhino proxies):

These are micro machine ambulances (GHQ n-scale vans, while perfect style-wise, were just too big - more landraider size than rhinos), with a noise marine on the base for flavor.

So, sketch van corps WIP. These machines rarely were the same color. Prime and base coat:

Washes, highlight, black and metal done:

I plan to add some extra markings (rust, bondo, cracked windshields, van 'art') later.

Other mundane additions to the army, but what can measure up after the vans?

Daemon Prince. It's hard to see with the white prime, but there's a sorcerer and two disc-rider havocs on the base with him. It's a warmaster fig.:

Next, a greater daemon with 3 modified noise marines. 'She' has a base of tallern flesh and wash of ogryn flesh:

Havoc upgrades just need a final wash and basing:

Objectives: a crashed dreadclaw (1-2 characters will be added)

...and a rare miscast Otterware nashorn will serve as an APC with a thrown track:

Okay, I hope this is a ramp up for the September game, because those Chaos need to be fielded in an appropriately awesome game.
And I am going to steal your micro machine van idea for civilian vehicles.

Then please, PLEASE, do NOT schedule that game for Sept 10-11 weekend. I'll most likely end up watching from taccom if it ends up being in early sept.
