Work has begun!
I'm still undecided about an overall chaos force, but the Imperator is definitely on the way.
Dec. 16 - I filed the bastions to remove some of the English Gothic detailing so that it will fit with the more Egyptian theme I have going. They were then glued together.
I cut the arcane headstones (little obelisks) off their bases in order to use them on the carapace/platform. I also filed and glued together the elvish waystone (big ol' obelisk) to use as the carapce centerpiece.
Finally, the major instigation to all this was that I wandered into the local game shop to find out that all Ral Partha figs were 50% off. I found a 25mm tomb king fig that had some nifty components - a set of Coptic (?) jars (the alabastar ones they put mummy organs in), and a sarcophagus - so I bought it.
Dec 17 - I glued the rear tower together, filed it and put it on the rear of the platform. I left the detail, as I think I can paint it to look less gothic and more Egyptian. I then glued the small obelisks on the rear corners.
I removed the jars from their sprues and filed the bases down.
It turned out the sarcophagus lid was exactly the right size for the feet to touch the base of the waystone and the head be just below the top of the obelisk. This was a great boon. In addition to the perfect fit, it meant that I could glue it onto the obelisk and not have to grind down all the elvish/eldar runes. There are just enough unrecognizable portions sticking out around it to make it look like generic runes cover the survace behind the sarcophagus. Needless to say, I glued it on as soon as I filed the flash.
I cut pieces of sprue to mount on the front corners of the platform. They are positioned as 3 bar ingots in order to raise the Warmastor Tomb King thrones above the battlements at the front corners. Once they were beveled and shaved accordingly, I glued them on.
The last thing I did was to check the overall look of the platform by placing all the bits on it and comparing it to my other Imperator. The Waystone is near the front, flanked by the tomb kings on each front corner. The jars will be on the sides, facing out, flanking the side-mounted cannons. The headstones flank the rear tower on the rear corner.
I'll try to get hold of a digital camera and post some pics, as I don't think my description is as clear as it could be.
Next up: Gluing the platform.
=================
I have two issues that I would like input on.
The head. I have 3 options currently:
1) Order a Tzeentch titan head. I checked the size and it should look okay. My concern is that it might look insufficiently Egyptian.
2) Use a Warmaster Sphinx head. Again, I checked and I can make it work. Very Egyptian, but it would be the only truly organic-looking bit on the model and I wonder about the overall look.
3) Order a Warmonger head and/or head guns. I believe I could paint them in a scheme that would match, but I couldn't find a clear picture on the GW site, so I'm not certain.
The Hellstorm Cannon
I'm missing a bit.
The barrel tip piece is gone, so I was considering alternatives.
1) Putty it up. Cheap, but not so simple. I'm not sure my scultping skills are up to the task.
2) Replace the weapon. Using a Warmonger Vengeance Cannon is a possibility. Any other sufficiently large suggestions are welcome.
3) Order a complete Warmonger and just take the unneeded bit off the sprue. I just don't want to pay $35 for a model that I will admittedly probably never use at the moment, especially at Christmas.
So, I'll continue to forge ahead on other parts while you guys give me feedback.
