Well, I [finally] decided to use my airbrush for more than an expensive spray gun. And what better to do it on than AOTs?

Catachan basecoat, with Bubonic Brown striping. You can see that some are at differnet stages of painting.

I'm not sure how to add more depth, I can't just drybrush a single color, as it'd look odd, and I don't trust my hand doing multiple colors at this scale. Comments/suggestions?

A bright green(scorpion?) could work or a yellow

it looks more difficult than it is

A wash is the best option, a dark brown one will give depth to both colours.

I'd use something like bleached bone as a highlight, as it can work on both colours.

I agree, a wash like GW's Devlan Mud will give great depth.

Turns out Camo Green Drybrush doesn't clash with Bubonic Brown enough to notice.

Ended up with Devlan on the body, and metal (barrels and tracks) looked better in Badab Black.

They're all actually the same, it's an artifact of the flash and my crappy photography that makes the left one darker.

I didn't comment but I thought they were the same. Ulric made me doubt !

They are coming up nicely.

Necron Tomb Complex to go with the Warbarques.

Image

Image

For scale, the base is 55mm x 55mm, and the top is made of a 40mm x 40mm base.

Now I just need to finish the second Warbarque and make an Aeonic Orb, then two more Warbarques and an Abbatoir for the other local Necron player... Finish my Minervans... I've got the start of my Vanaheim army en route... Paint some FoW Italians for a pal... *sigh* At least it's bringing in cash.

Quick sketch for my upcoming Vanaheim army, using another leftover BMP-3. Now that I've got my AOTs, what else would I do with them?

Image

Desert Yellow with Scorched Brown Camo. Bleached Bone Drybrush and a Gryphonne Sepia wash. Key differences the actual army will see: this is over black primer; I'd use white if the model hadn't been primed already. I may airbrush the camo, similar to the recent AOTs. However, I may stick with brush application, since it will be easier to avoid the lift fans that way, and not have to touch up inside corners.

C&C?

Some quick pics of basecoated jump troops.

I need to take some when I've got more time to get a better background, the contrast is terrible with the flash. I'll put up better ones later.
