Hi All

I have recently rediscovered my love for all things Epic after a break of quite a few years (I stopped playing around the time SM2 was replaced). Luckily I have kept all my old models, and have even been adding to them over the years. I discovered the NetEpic rules quite by accident about 6 months ago and was instantly re-hooked by what you guys have done with the game. Congratulations to you all on all the hard work you must have put in, the NetEpic Gold rule book and Army books that I have printed so far are superb! Last night I put on my first small game (3000 points of Orcs Vs Space Marines) at my local club for myself and several other gamers who I am hoping will also get back into Epic gaming. I am happy to report that the game was very well received with pretty much everything running very smoothly. However, a couple of situations did crop up that I was hoping you might be able to help me with.

1 With the new rules for alternating activations in the movement phase, how is it possible to move an embarked infantry unit, and maintain unit coherency, if it is loaded on transports from 2 or more different detachments? Specifically, I had an Evil Sunz Clan to which I had added a support card of 4 extra Orc boyz and a Skullhammer battle fortress to transport them. Because the extra boyz became part of the boyz mob, they found themselves being transported by 2 separate detachments (i.e. the battle wagon mob and the battle fortress) both of which require their own order counter and move at different points when activated.

2 A Slasha Gargant was hit and a fire started. In the end phase a 5 was rolled on the fire table causing another damage roll on each intact magazine, in this case I thought there were 2 magazines in total and not 4, 2 on the front and 2 on the back, as another player thought? Regardless, the first roll for a magazine started another 2 fires and a further roll on the fire chart, which destroyed the Gargant outright. Did we do this correctly, as everybody playing and watching were very surprised how easy it was to destroy the Slasha with effectively the single initial hit?

Cheers for any help, and once again huge congratulations on the NetEpic rules!

Hi and welcome on this board :)

About your questions:

1) that's not possible, you can't transport a single detachment (your boyz mob) in separate transport detachment (battle wagonz mob + skullhamme mob). By doing this, you'll intentionnally break boyz coherency. So to transport more Evil Sunz boyz, just buy more battle wagonz to transport extra boyz.

2) there are 3 2 amno magazines on a slasha: 1 behind the belly gun (rear template) and1 for each side weapon (visible on both front & rear template). Once a fire is started slasha gargant can be quite easily destroyed but sometimes they can resist to a huge amount of firepower...

Years ago I played many battles against Orks and I have noticed,
that the Ork Gargants are pretty weak, once forced to roll on the fire table

Yes, it can get hairy for a Gargant once the fires start, and Slashas are easier to kill thanthe bigger Gargants obviously, and sometimes you can get lucky and just keep rolling 1s. I've seen plenty of games where a single Gargant has soaked up tremendous firepower and survived the game.

Thanks for the replies and answers guys! I have a couple more questions if you will indulge me. First regarding the magazines on the Slasha, I dont see the magazine behind the belly gun on the rear template that Scream mentioned, is it just implied that there is a magazine there?

My second question is about bases. Most of my stuff is on the old style 20mm squares, painted green with a layer of green flock on top. They probably looked great way back in the early 90's when that sort of thing was the norm, but they look pretty dated now to my eyes at least. I am planing to have a big rebasing drive to give every thing a more up to date look, and whilst browsing the net for inspiration I came across this Orc army http://wargamingworkshop.wordpress.com/ ... /epicorks/ done on round bases for Epic Armageddon which really blew me away! My question is is it feasable to use round bases with NetEpic?

Cheers again!

That is indeed a pretty Orc army.

NetEpic isn't really prescriptive about base sizes, but I think it's fair to say that the expectation when the rules were written was either the 20x20 square or 40x12 rectangles would be used. However, if you want to use round bases I can't see anyone having a major issue with it. I would suggest the perfect option would be to keep them to a 20mm diameter so they are size compatible, but that is pretty tiny. Perhaps 24-25mm (about the size of a UK 5p / AUS 10c piece) might be a workable compromise.

Having said that, I don't think it's really the shape that makes the difference to appearance :). I'm rubbish at that stuff and even I can get passable results with all the basing and flocking goodies now available.

More like a 10p coin, the 'new' 5p (circa '90s) is weeeeeny, i use them to base dreadnoughts/land speeders if I'm feeling flush!

This Amno location behind Belly Gun was in the 5.2 codex and has been dropped from the Gold Codex, replaced by a hull location. I don't know if it's wanted or not.

Ah, I had noticed NZ did a recoinage making everything smaller, but last time I was in the UK was '93 and I remember the coins being "full" sized.

I don't think it's worth changing. The Slasha gets a tiny bit harder to kill.....probably a good thing really.
