Quote (primarch @ 16 2003 Dec.,22:58) | Hi! ?
Vanvlak, thats a clever use of an ork piece (gargant prow/cow-catcher) to individualize an eldar vehicle. ?
I bet you can demoralize your ork opponent with it too.... ?
Primarch |
WHEN I find an ork opponent... ? ?- thanks Primarch.
UPDATE - THIS IS THE CONSCIENCE SPEAKING - WE ARE FALLING. THIS HAPPENS WITH EACH AND EVERY ARMY. GOOD INTENTIONS BY THE LANDA-FULL, AND THEN WHAT HAPPENS - CONVERSIONS! WE HATE THAT CONCEPT!! THE VERY BANE OF OUR EXISTENCE!!! BUT WE WILL PREVAIL!!!! THERE ARE 35 STANDS OF ELDAR GUARDIANS WAITING!!!!!
What my conscience doesn't know is that I intend to convert these stands too! Not the guardians themselves - I leave that to manic people ?- just the bases, by adding some ruins or weirder scenery. ? My conscience is right about one thing, though, conversions are my bane, or rather, my armies' bane. I'm not a sculptor, I just like to fiddle about with the bits I have in stock, which can be very frustrating when I get to build the model from which the bits were originally stolen! ?
Anyway - last night I was guarding a steaming Christmas Pudding (my wife is a terrific cook!), and I had plenty of time to dream up some stuff: 1 - the Revenant ?- status: well defined, parts located 2 - the Storm Serpent - status: defined, major parts located; production may be doubled! (i.e. 2) 3 - the Cobra - status: preliminary concept defined, some parts located 4 - Great Hawk - status: early conceptualization, weapon parts located.
Belatedly, I realize I should have made this today's formal (i.e. with the date on top) diary entry... I could always edit it....BUT HONOUR AND DUTY SHALL PREVAIL!! See you all later, then, I guess.

WEDNESDAY 17th DECEMBER 2003
Hi all, my conscience has been temporarily stowed away and I'm happy working on my Serpent and Cobra and Revenant conversions. Not much to report, I'm only working on the concepts I mentioned earlier. But I've added another photo here showing whats on my workspace - currently labelled 'Eldar skunk works'. ? Top secret stuff going on here. Some parts are pretty obvious, others less so...although you lot will probably identify each and every single component in less than a minute. *sigh* ? Edit -0 the photo is intentionally unclear in some areas. These ARE the skunk works, after all. The problems with my conversions currently range between vehicles without weapons systems and weapons systems without vehicles - in incompatible combinations. But I'll make them work out somehow.

THURSDAY 18/12/2003
Hi all, University Christmas lunch today - bloated and sluggish! So not much work done - but I did some assembly work on the Cobra, as can be seen here. (see the last pic on the list, cobra wip) It's far from being ready, needing loads of filler and some detailing - and of course painting! But at least it's in hand.
The bitz, oops, I mean bits - these are the Eldar, you know:
- one old plastic Falcon hull, chopped to bits - one old metal hull (Doomweaver or Firestorm type) - one vibrocannon from one of my assorted Warlock Titans - one WH40K Dark Eldar wing (large) from a Dark Eldar jetbike - some bits of sprue
It's 5.5cm long and 4cm wide, and 2.5cm high - not gigantic, but big enough for a war machine. I hope...
Cheers.

FRIDAY 19/12/2003
Hi all, dismal failure to do anything today - busy day at work (including the students' Christmas party!), and cleared up a bit of pre-Christmas mess here at home. And am now off to eat out with the wife, followed by The Return of the King.
I'm planning to complete the Cobra over the weekend, and start working on some troop stands - the first of my Guardian Warhosts: eight stands, including one Warlock (my first stand is ready). we'll see how it goes. I'll be slower than my 10 minute standard for these troops, because I intend to do some fancy bases. Cheers and oliphaunts.

SATURDAY 20/12/2003
Hi all, ramping up again: have started to work on bases with scenery for my first Mingel Guardian Warhost. I'm using a mix of long and square bases, and have left three flat plain; the others have bits of sprue building on them, or sections of - well, you'll see when they're ready, if it works. I'v also assembled my Farseer base....
ok, so it's just 15 minutes work in all (most of it fiddling with the new scenery). But it IS better than yesterday, so there. ? I'm trying to DISCIPLINE MYSELF BASING MY WORK ON THE ARMY SELECTION PROCEDURE: ONE WARHOST WITH THREE TROUPES. LOOKS LIKE THIS FIRST WARHOST WILL GET SUPER HEAVIES AND A FIREWING (FIRE PRISM) TROUPE.
Ok, thank you conscience, you've done your bit for the day. Re LOTR - The Return of the King yesterday: Pelennor field: ?I'll never watch a better battle scene... sigh....

Hi!
I'm waiting for some of the rush to die down. Perhaps the day after Christmas is good.

SUNDAY 21/12/2003
Hi all, and welcome to the shortest day of the year (and Legion4 gets the longest birthday night of all to celebrate in).
So - worked a bit on the Mingel army today. I stuck to my conscience's advice and finished assembling the bases for my first Guardian Warhost - 8 bases in all as my first base had been completed previously as a colour scheme testpiece. Ok, I didn't make the 10 minute completion time....
1 - I like to mix old and new Guardians on the bases, and I'm using a selection of the new long bases and the old square ones: observation - the new models' round bases don't fit in the recesses in the old bases, so I had to file down each new Guardian base to size. 2 - My old Guardians had been spray undercoated before assembly - this thin coat was enough to prevent their entry into the old bases as well! More filing.
But they're now complete, and await undercoating (black) and painting (yellow + red). As red doesn't come out too well on black, I usually first apply two thin coats of yellow all over, then paint the red onto the yellow on the helmet. I used this technique on my sole painted Firewing as well.
Speaking of which, I decided to use my pair of Warp Hunters as Fire Prisms. The reasoning goes like this: the Warp Hunters are old vehicles, with large cannon to give a Fire Prism firepower performance. The new Firewings use more modern technology to fit in a powerful cannon in a slimmer, smaller assembly... anyway, I like a mix of models in the troupes, must be my penchant for Orky armies....
I've added a couple of pics of my second Fire Prism troupe then - these are confusingly (but partly correctly) labelled Firewing troupe and Firewing troupe 2 here. Note that the second pic (which is actually the first - bother!) is on the second page of my Epic Eldar folder. This troupe consists of the two Warp Hunters led by a Firewing Mk.2. There are disturbing reports of Dark Eldar Pirate activity in the Mingel Craftworld zone.....
cheers for now: tomorrow - painting the Guardians or completing the Cobra - suspense!
