Beware the alien!

After months of hard work by the Epic-UK committee and our testers we are proud to announce the release of Epic-UK Eldar Codex. Inside is an updated Biel-Tan list and 3 new lists for the Ulthwé, Saim-Hann and Iyanden craftworlds. These lists will replace Games Workshop's Swordwind for future Epic-UK and Epic-UK affiliated events. There are also quick reference sheets for all four, thanks to Stompzilla for completing these.

Not content with 3 new and 1 updated list we also are proud to release a brand new race - the Tau which has been developed in conjunction with the Tac Coms forums. We look forward to seeing these new lists at events in 2011.

Speaking of 2011 tickets are now available for the first 3 tournaments of the year - Bristol Winter Warmer (and gaming day), the opening Epic-UK championship event - Full Scale Assault at Mansfield Gas club on February 5th (+gaming day with bridge too far scenario) and the first 2 dayer of the year (and Epic-UK's first event at Stockports NWGC) - Into the Breach. Details of all 3 via the Epic-UK Calendar

Happy New Year!

Is that in the QRS? If so it's a typo. Always go with whats in the codex over the QRS.

Generally looks decent, good to see the Tau list too.

It's obvious what it would be but the Vampire Hunter currently doesn't have a critical listed.

Rug - Only the Seer Council is missing its Inv Save.

GlynG - Thanks for the pickup.

Keep them coming!

Nice to see these up.

I think that Gun Drones in the Tau list will under-perform, but having one dud unit in the whole list isn't terrible. It can always get changed in a couple of years' time once the Tau have bedded in to the scene properly.

For the Eldar, I think it's disappointing that no lists use the Eldar Hornet light tank.
It would have been perfect for Saim Hann, and as it was released for 40k more than 3 months ago, that would have been plenty of time to playtest it.

I think Scorpions will remain extinct, as lack of range was never their problem IMO. They just needed more (3x, with a worse to-hit chance), or more deadly (TK instead of MW), shots, IMO. As with Tau Gun Drones, I they may well stay in the "nice model, bad rules" section of the army case.

Spirit Stones as an upgrade makes a fair bit of sense, though it's potentially confusing for opponents if an army isn't painted/modelled appropriately.

I'm not hugely familiar with variant NetEA Eldar list development to date so can't really compare the two sets of variant lists to weigh which is better... I played against the old ERC Ulthwe list (Before the NetEA project came about) a lot a few years back, and remember it being very powerful in a "swamp you with troops" kind of way, and it looks broadly the same.

I'd be happy to play against any of them.

Spirit stones is no different to a daemonic pact and no-one has had an issue with which formations have or have not bought the upgrade.

Just highlighting it as a potential concern; I must say that the "invisible" daemonic pact upgrade has never sat entirely well with me either, as I think WYSIWYG is important for tournament-appropriate games design.

Whilst not often an issue in games, it's always felt like an idea that doesn't quite mesh with Epic's usual design approach, to me.

I should probably say, again, that suitable paint jobs or conversions / modelling differences can smooth over the issue.

They go on RA & fearless units? Good enough reason for me!

The Hornet isn't in the 40k Codex

So?

Neither is half the stuff in the Tau army list... (And given time, I expect seeing it transition across from FW resin to GW plastic ala how the Skyray and the Piranha were treated would be very likely)... and everything FW does is vetted and approved by the core studio (That's seemingly one of the reasons why Rick Priestly got fired, as apparently he kept crossing the lines of what FW were permitted to do with his last FW-WFB project, and his book now has to be re-written before they can release it...).

So just because it's a Forgeworld model, that doesn't make it somehow "unofficial", because FW's activities are very definitely under the scrutiny of the core studio.

Unlike Spiritseers etc, which are just things that EUK made up.

and there is no model

It's either the turret of a SHT, or a scratchbuild proxy (I wouldn't do one, but plenty would), or some suitable model from DRM, etc.

And like I said, it would have fit really nicely with the Saim Hann what with their "light floaty stuff" theme (As far as I understand their theme).
