You are correct.
Vanguard Veterans = Jumppack Veterans (red armour, golden helmets)
Honour Guard = Jumppack Command Squad (completely golden armour)
Sanguinary Guard = even better Vanguard Veterans (completely golden artificer armour, winges jumppacks, etc)

@E&C: I'm lining up figs and stuff for a go at Blood Angels. I have one of the old 2nd Edition codexes (Angels of Death) to guide me through the painting.

However, I do have a question regarding the Sanguinary Guard that was discussed and might be considered. If I was going to model a formation of these guys, not sure that they will even make it to the list, would it make sense to make them four stands or six?

In other words, if you were going to create the unit, would it fit more as an elite formation like terminators or would you try to make it a six stand formation like the other Assault formations?

If asked, I'd say four, but that's just my opinion.

Cheers,

IMHO as Sanguinary Guard are even rarer than Terminators (only 30in the whole Chapter) and have a small aquad size (ony 5 guards) i would say 4 units per formation.

Or...maybe as an upgrade to one stand of an assault formation. That might be interesting to consider. Then it's just an incremental increase to an existing formation rather than adding something entirely new to the list.

Interesting...I did not realize their numbers were so small, basically almost a third of a company for the entire chapter.

They would make a pretty SC stand, that's about it at Epic scale.

@Honda: Well they were Sanguinius' personal bodyguard. With Sanguinius dead they now are "only" a powerful assault force within the Chapter.
@Mephiston: To accompany the Supreme Commander is the Honour Guard's job.

The Sanguinary Guard are, approximately, about as numerous as the Death Company.

I'm not convinced that they need to be represented, but I'm not totally on the side of incorporating them, either.

I think that one way to do it under the current list could be to "counts as" a Librarian upgrade when applied to an Assault unit as being Sanguinary Guard, that would give about the right stats I think.
Of course, noone in their right mind would actually give Assault Marines a Librarian, heh.

Doesn't Librarian just give the Smite attack? I'm not sure that is the overall effect the SG have.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the SG becoming an upgrade to an assault unit. It should have a MW attack (lots of melta in them) as well as an extra MW CC attack...but it should be a noticeable buff...say +50 pts?

Well, yeah, there is that...though I suppose if you wanted to go more Blood Angels-y, you could have a BA Librarian (i.e. Mephiston) provide nasty CC attacks...but I think that is a box better left unopened. I think that way leads to all sorts of nasty consequences, intended or otherwise.

Cheers,

No, he also gives a MWCC attack, and Leader (For SG that would be representing their enhanced experience or something), and also invulnerable save.

That's just the Librarian upgrade, except worse, because it doesn't have leader or invulnerable save.

And yeah, nobody takes Librarians on Assault Marines, because of their poor FF rating. So that upgrade you just proposed is likely not worth more than 25pts.
