I my opinion, and that's what I tried to say (maybe somewhat clumsily), making the Caetus a skimmer in the Wh40K rule set looks like a contortion by the FW guys to fit the very cool concept of an "assault ram" on a Warhammer 40K table.

Fair enough.

Here's a link to the Bell of Lost Souls preview from a year ago. It has audio of an interview with FW. It uses the term "assault boat" but the description is more like a transport/close support combo, saying it's "a bit like a Space Marine Valkyrie."

Because the skimmer-dropship concept and the prototype model was out first and was the original intent, my sense is the opposite. It's the ship-to-ship stuff that feels cobbled on as an afterthought.

A medium-srength one-shot missile launcher makes no sence in a boarding vessel too.
Either you have one powerful weapon to breach the hull of a starship (already there, the Magna-Melta) or you have a weapon to defend the assault ship against enemy fighters (thats what the Caestus laks).

A Space Marine Valkyrie makes much more sence. A bigger Land Speeder with transport capacity.

I think they've gone back and forward on it a few times ; Last time i talked to Darren P about it he saw it as a Land Speeder variant, with all that would imply.

I might well like a few, are you in the UK? If not if there are a bunch of us that would like a few you could bulk send and then they could be split up here? How much would you need for your time and materials and whatnot?

My FW Caestus has been delayed due to casting problems. Most unhappy.

For those who doen't know already:
Ther Caestus will be in Imperial Armour 10. Imperial Armour 9 will be the first part about the Badab War, Imperial Armour 10 will be the second part together with boarding rules and some new BFG stuff.

The paint schemes of some chapters will change. The colours of the Caestus on the FW site is rumoured to be the new Astral Claws paint scheme. Ugly i say :(

How about making it a 0cm movement transport with teleport? That way it can effectivly 'planetfall' without being constrained by the drop coordinates. Give it oneshot on the weapons and they then can only give support to the initial assault. The overall effect would to be very similar to 'steerable drop pods' which is really what assault boats are, and I think would cover the caestus in a fairly simple way but still retain the deployment flexibility its designed to provide without giving marines skimmer transports.

I think the Caestus might be a development of the 'Shark Assault Boat' from BFG:

Same principles, and even the model looks similar – that main difference being the snub-nosed catamaran hull, rather than the original snub-nosed monohull.

The space sharks, now Charadons, are meant to be appearing in IA9 i think, so it all fits neatly together.

Now, about fielding it in epic - a droppod that can target superheavies?
