I'm kinda at a road block with my Necron paint schemes idea's. I basically have 2 options, #1 - paint my army like the traditional necron army - silver infantry, and black tanks or #2 paint them up my own personal paint scheme of blue armor and silver joints infantry and basically the same for vehicles. Problem is, the way I "see it in my head" of my own custom paint job is that the detail will kinda be lost on the infantry and the tanks will look weird(i think) in blue. (o and its regal blue base coat, then enchanted blue over all that cept in the recesses, fallowed by a very small highlight of a brighter blue on the edges of the infantry shoulders pads and tank plates. w/ silver elbows and knee caps and any thing that's basically a joint or not a armored plate)

while the traditional scheme is just silver , kinda boring but at least it will be clear as to what they are ( the other one can confused for blue marines or some thing. and i know the tanks look acceptable* in black cus that's how the 40k pic is painted.

any way i cant seem to find to many pics of peoples epic necrons so can you who all have (at least 1 stand! please!) some pics please post some. even if they just silver scheme, but looking for some custom schemes, I just want to see if there's a point to painting them using more color/detail.

Well I ended up doing a sort of traditional look but I tinted the silver with green and did white for the heads. I also did more of a greenish black for the vehicles. It's all in my painting blog here:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13924&start=465

it goes for several pages anyway. For me it came down to having a different primary color for each army. My Ig is blue-gray, marines yellow, admech red and bone, titans gray and yellow. Since I wanted to save white for eldar that left silver and green for the crons.

very cool, ya I saw some of your work some were else(IF stuff and some chimera's I think). I really like what you did with the tomb spyders, I think I have to go do that to all mine now... Just one question.. ok 2 , why did you face the round edge of the tomb complex on the back? and do you have a group shot of all your necron stuff from a bit farther out? Up close some of your stuff could pass for 40k stuff its so good, but epic stuff looks very different when comparing up close shots like you got there and say battle field shots and that's where my blue scheme worries me, from farther away. close up its no problem to tell what they are, but "on the table" kinda shots they might not give the same feel in terms of.. "what are is this at a glance".

thanks again!

I typically do all my blitz objectives on 60mm bases but that didn't really leave much room for the tomb complex I'd envisioned. since the obelisks formed more of a square shape I just extended the base out because I liked how the shape fit the complex.

I do have one shot of them from a bit further out but I've been refraining from posting because of epicomp. As far as standing more at game length, I don't have that. However, standing back a few feet from them on the shelf and comparing them visually to the marines and IG they are easy enough to determine what's what especially with the vehicles.

Never got very far with necrons but for what it's worth they were going to be red and black:

I've actually forwarded this thread to Dom, love the red and black colour scheme, would look good with our studio Edenite army.

Er well i painted that almost exactly one year ago and now can't remember. I guess it was gore-> blood-> fiery dry brushes over black but i seem to remember doing a white or pale drybrush at some point to make the reds jumps off the black more as well (could be imagining that part though).

For infantry i was going to do a very dark metal with red and gold detail, but never got past doing a test stand.

I think you can pull off blue pretty easily if that's what you want.

The last edition of the 40K rulebook had a set of Necrons done in red that definitely gave the impression of enameled metal, with a little bit of a gloss sheen to them. IIRC, they had gold trim, so it should be a pretty good parallel for a blue/silver scheme.

Or going with a blue metallic could work, like vaaish's green metalic. If you can't find an actual metallic paint in the color you want, a mix of blue ink and silver paint will work. An opalescent white will make a more subtle semi-metallic colors if a metal-paint base looks too much like a metal flake paint job (obviously, you can't have your Necron War Barque looking like a bass boat).

Another good option I've seen in 40K armies is a standard silver/black scheme but with a different third color instead of the standard fluorescent green. Most traded out different color plastic stock for the GW green and painted the trim accordingly. So, instead of silver/black/green they were silver/black/blue or silver/black/red (e.g. trimmed out like Apocolo's Abbatoir). That would give you the traditional, easily-recognized look but with some variety.

Yup, I did that with my epic necrons, replacing the green with blue, even on the vehicles (see my sig).

There are some good shots of Zombo's pieces in the Raiders 2.0 book.

What about some thing more friendly like these ;D ,

Image

just finished putting sand on the bases of the tanks, still gota do infantry but i was thinking some crazy green glowing necron patterns on parts of the stand, to kinda make it look like there is a necron structure they are walking on, but with some patches of sand to break it up a little. what do you guys think>?

some thing like this,
