New Eldar vehicle from FW:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/ELDAR-HORNET.html
The Hornet is a light tank employed by Eldar armoured forces in a fast reconnaissance and raiding role. Piloted by a single crewman, it can be found in the forefront of Eldar aspect warrior assault waves, speeding ahead of heavier Falcons and Wave Serpents and often operating alongside other high-speed attack craft such as jetbikes and Vypers.

rules: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/P ... netexp.pdf

Proposed Epic stats:

Eldar Hornet
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Armoured Vehicle 35cm 5+ 6+ 5+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
2 x Pulse Laser 45cm 2 x AT4+ -
OR
2 x Scatter Laser 30cm AP5+/AT5+ -

Notes: Skimmer, Scout..

What, not twin? :)

The above stats bl doesn't make it look particularly 'light'. Remarkably reminiscent of a falcon actually.

Start by making it a LV.

It looks to fulfill the same role as a War Walker. Better frontal and side armor, and it can take pluse lasers.

Base stat line:
LV 35cm 5+ 6+ 5+ Scout, Skimmer

I'd go with either BL's loadout, or the same loadout as the War Walker. The 40k weapons aren't twin linked, and can be chosen seperately.

The new etched Ork Glyphs look like they have potential as well.

I was thinking the armor should match that of a rhino, because, you know, it has the same armor as a rhino.

It has to fit in between a Falcon (AV 5+ save) and a Vyper (LV 4+ save). I don't see any room there, so I vote for AV 5+ save as well.

As for the guns, clearly 2 pulse lasers is worth more than s scatter lasers, so I don't see the point of having a choice between the two.

Giving it scout is a bit overpowering, maybe dial back to AV 6+ after all.

Good choice for the Yme Loc list, as long as you cut rangers from the list.

Interesting... but kinda pointless, other than to sell more Forge World models... doesn't really bring anything "new" to the table.

I agree that it could possibly replace Rangers/War Walkers in the Yme-Loc list.

Maybe this would be a good candidate for putting a star cannon on. It's the only eldar heavy weapon that hasn't shown up yet in E:A, and it would at least set the Hornet apart in one small way.

It seems to me that in order for this unit to really fill the niche that FW describes for it, it needs to be cheaper than the Falcon. I'm not sure you can do that if it has the scout special rule. Another overpowering, yet seemingly appropriate special rule you could give the Hornet would be infiltrator, based on it always having star engines.

Of course, the ability to assault enemy formations from 70 + 15 cm away is a tad much.

Nnother question is whether these should be grouped into their own formation, or taken as upgrades to the Falcon warhost that Yme Loc has. It would be nice to be able to take some meat shields along with the falcons.

The Starcannon is a difficult beast to capture in Epic. In 40k it is 36", S6, AP2, Heavy 2. This makes it a superb Marine hunter due to the AP, but poor against light infantry due to low number of shots and poor against vehicles due to the relatively low strength. It is capable of damaging AV classed vehicles such as the Rhino and Chimaera; it is simply unlikely.

It would seem to need a 30cm range with an AT6+ and an AP5+ (MW) shot. Short of a dual mode (not fluffy) there is no good way to represent the weapon that does not leave it inferior or identical to the Scatter Laser.

I'd go with this:

Quote:
Eldar Hornet
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Light Vehicle 35cm 5+ 6+ 6+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
2 x Pulse Laser 45cm 2 x AT4+

Notes: Skimmer

Plus maybe "Scout" as well.

Massive AT firepower, but on an LV hull with poor FF.
That'd be a fairly niche unique.

I picked the Pulse Laser because that's the only weapon they made a resin version of for the 40k model.

The Vyper has a better Save and less Armor. Even the Deffkopta gets a better save. If you go the LV route, it needs to be 4+ Save.

4+ armour could well be justified, yep.

But it's a flying Rhino armour wise and not a Vyper/Land Speeder equivalent.
AV with 5+ save is entirely justified.

Vyper/LandSpeeder: 10/10/10 (LV 4+ save)
Hornet/Rhino: 11/11/10 (AV 5+ save)
Predator: 13/11/10 (AV 4+ save)
Falcon: 12/12/10 (AV 5+ save)

You could argue that the Falcon's armour is to light and should have a 4+ save.

And the Hornat has Scout and Star Engines as standard in 40k so Scout in Epic makes sence.

I'd say it's on the edge between AV and LV, and as such, LV would give it a more unique niche in the Eldar arsenal.

The Falcon really should be 4+. That, or the Rhino should be 6+.

But then, the armor save progression for AVs is insane.

OR it's more logical in Epic than it is in 40k, take 'yer pick. :)
