I don't have a problem with it if the person's buying a big lot to complete their army and selling off what they don't need to help offset the cost. They are part of the community and contributing to it by playing games and possibly showcasing the system to others.

I take exception to someone who buys lots just to turn around and sell them for a profit. They're making a profit off of the community while contributing nothing to it. Some models are hard enough to get to begin with without people like that hiking up the costs.

Then you must really hate Chaos Orc who has a site dedicated to just this practice :)

It wasn't as pronounced when he was on eBay (I got a lot of nice deals from him then), but ya, I haven't ordered any of his second hand stuff in 2 years or so.

He routinely buys bulk lots (mostly titans including metal weapons) and relists them at a ridiculous price. He once tried to sell a Warmonger titan for £499.

Yes I have noticed that too,
there are still 1 or 2 battlegroups with metal weapons around from Darksanctuary

These items seem to be lost to the Epic community :-\
Neraly 50% or more of all rare items
are offered for ridiculous "buy it now" prices ???

I don't mind people selling at high prices, that's what a market place is for, finding the best price.

I do have a problem with people attempting to create artificial scarcity by buying up all instances of a rare model and then drip feeding them back to the community. Fortunately our community has ways of getting around scarcity :)

it only takes a few fools to buy at darksanctuary's hugely inflated prices, and the average 'value' will climb as people think the items are worth more.

Except that we don't track average market values really, so i don't thick it matters at all. Only fools buy them, if one item sells for £400 and all the other instances of it sell for £20, ill still assume that it is worth £20, rather than a bit more due to averages. If the price or postage are insane, just ignore and move on.

Just found out that he has another account: kaibakids. I had some stuff up for auction recently and he bought some stuff off me. I didn't realise who it was until I saw the postage address and paypal details (yes I had bought something off him in the distant past) and by then it was too late to do anything.

As to the conversation above about ebay scrapers, I see plenty of these. Infact, most of the time the people buying the stuff are other scrapers who then relist it for an even higher amount. It sits there for ages then they put it up for auction and more often than not another scraper wins it and the process starts again. Bonkers.

i recently (well, a few months ago) got outbid on a very nice big eldar army, i wanted it for its titans, and was obviously trying to get a good buy, but its hard to outbid a reseller, since they can buy it for any price less than they can sell the sum of its parts for and still make a profit :/
i shall forever rue the loss of all those beautiful old revenants :/
and yes, they trickle-sell the bits back gradually

I have had experiance of this guy too, when he was Spen whatever. He always used blue writeing in his descriptions. Normally I would be bidding against him in the old days, invariably he would win, then the lots would be broken up and re appear. He uses phrases like huge lot, very rare or large army.(He knows how to get our attention)!

He often throws in an original box for good meausure ( boxes always get my attention too).Once, a few years ago I noticed that a lot I was after had over 19 or 20 bids. When I looked to see who the bidders were they were all him, raising his bid by 50p a time to make it look like it had too much interest to bid against.

Shadey, very shadey.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Here's another seller whose M.O. I don't really understand:
http://stores.ebay.com/Blackwaters-Mini ... =391498719

That's a lot of money if you want to order a single FW Chimera - and miscast, at that.

Unlike some of the other selling practices described in this thread, I wouldn't say there's anything unethical going here, but I'd certainly advise people not to pay these prices. Some of them are still available new!

If somebody wants to spend their money at these ridiculous prices, let them. Let the buyer beware and God bless the free market system.

I was going to let it go until I read you criticising others - but you bought some OOP Tau+Grey knights off me a few months ago at a TC discount (around/just above retail for the OOP FW pieces, just below retail for the still available) and then put them straight on ebay. Even having the brass neck to advertise here viewtopic.php?f=58&t=19158&p=380192#p380192 and later whinge about how you only got 25euro for a broadside pack. IMO thats worse than a lot of the ebay practices detailed in this thread.

Basically now in future I'll offer anything to my friends and then bypass TC to ebay myself rather than have a community/epic discount abused.
