You make perfectionist sound like a bad thing Horizon?

I did manage to file down the Golden Targe and Bulwark of Faith bases using an extremely fine sand paper. I removed the crinkles, touched up with black paint and then re-varnished using Vallejo Silk. I left them to sit for 2 hrs. till they were thoroughly dry before moving them (hindsight is a wonderful thing). The remaining two crinkled bases were un-recoverable sadly.

Tonight I will get another 5 done with no mistakes this time, that should give me all the bases I need for my 7 ships!

Once that is done I can get back to working on the battleship.

Woohoo! I can't wait to see all the bases finalized. They're looking good so far, even with the few little mistakes. I'm glad you managed to salvage two of them from that first batch. Keep it up!

Well it was a good weekend all round, got all the bases completed and varnished properly on Friday night and if you look closely at the stalk on Bulwark of Faith you will see a small embedded magnet for the cherub banner, which will eventually be added to all the others. However I stopped working over the rest of the weekend and spent the time with my daughter Hannah who had her 12th birthday over the weekend :)

Please excuse the hastily snapped photo from this morning, I was just heading out of the door and wanted to get a shot to show the progress made!

As you can see the magnetic adaptors have been fitted to the bases, and now the corresponding adaptor end must be put on each ship. I am also painting up a test cherub banner to see what colours to use. I am hoping for completion by the end of the week (minus cherub banners which I have now relegated to "decoration" rather than essential).

Very nice and good work!

The magnets seem so bulky. But it might better than how I did mine. I cut of the little nob thing on top of the flying stands from GW, then I just glued Rare Earth Magnets to the tops. Then I just use some shrink tubing around to give it more support. Then I glued some more magnets into the holes of my cruiser and poof!

I also magnetized my weapons on my cruisers. I drilled a hole through the hull in the middle of each weapon section. Then I glued another REM into the hole and then cut of little rectangles of metal and glued them to the back of the different weapon sections.

I'll see if I can't post some pics...

All of the weapons are magnetised using 2mm magnets embedded into the hull and the weapon section for a good tight grip.

The magnetic adaptors I got from Ninja Magic have some very specific advantages, the teeth insure correct facing with the base every time and prevent rotational slip. In addtion the ability to create some rather interesting posed shots using their special angle connectors appealed to me :)

More importantly ... when actually having the ship on top they are hard to make out as you can see below. The eye is naturally drawn to the brightly coloured ship and not the black stand.

A friend and I are setting up a small test campaign ... for those interested here is the map: -

Image

A high resolution version can be found here: - Hi Res Map

Its a simple Chaos vs Imperial campaign with the following rules changes.

Escorts must make up 33% of the fleet, so in our campaign 660pts out of 2000.

To counter the quick death of Escorts due to Assault / hit and run tactics we are following the rules suggested over in the rules discussion forum of changing the hit chance to 4+ instead of 2+ as well as allowing a Brace for Impact against the hit (as per FAQ 2007). These changes should go a long way towards making Escorts viable again and part of the campaign will be to test this, as well as using more "Historically" realistic fleets.

Where possible the new FAQ 2010 will be used for the games and campaign.

Our first game scheduled for Thursday will be a "Fleet Engagement" at Passepatout with 1000pts of fleet each.

We are using Blue book fleets with the Torpedo Variants, Torpedo Bombers and Mine layers special rules from the Armada book.

Should be FUN!

I'm very interested in hearing how this turns out. Will you be making a report here, or perhaps in the battle report forum, about this campaign? If nothing else, can you at least give us (read "me") a quick rundown of how well this works out for you when you're done?

I don't use many escorts right now due to how easily they get smashed to bits, but I'd really love to have more diversity in my fleet. I just need a viable method to play them that gives them a chance to, you know, not become tiny chunk-lets turn 1.

The rule Brother Argos refers to (escorts: 4+ on a d6 from hit&run) is well accepted by many and I guess it'll turn up in the FAQ2010.

I like it and advice everyone to use it.

Depending on time available we will be showing some of our battles in the form of battle reports :)

This log will be going dark for a week and a half as I will be involved in some real life stuff.

Unlike my steel legion log, this one will be returned too when I am finished!
