Ooh, love the new tall thing - webway gate of some kind?

Half of a Gate of Vaul as shown on the cover of Epic: Swordwind.

It is supposed to be a large webway gate, like the one on the cover of the swordwind book.

I had to make some modifications to satisfy my own tastes. One thing that I did was make sure that the top of the tower was within the perimeter of the base. Otherwise, it just didn't feel like a realistic structure and looked 'out-of-scale' to me - like I was trying to pass of a decorative cabinet pull as a tall building.

Currently, I'm working on adding details that will tie it in with the rest of my objectives. Once that is done, I'll start work on the opposite tower. At this point I'm not sure what the other half is going to look like. Simply mirroring the tower looks pretty good, but I'm somewhat partial to asymmetry. I think I'll try to sketch up a somewhat smaller tower for the opposite side of the gate. That way, if people want to have a symmetric gate, they can get two of the big towers, and make a medium sized gate with the left overs.

Also, I think I'm going to have a third part - some sort of central spike that I'll put in the middle of the gate. And if other people don't want to use it there, they can use it on its own.

Also, for some reason, this week a bit of inspiration struck me, and I started drawing up a new structure. I'll let you guys guess what it is supposed to be.

Looks Necrony.

I assume you feel this way because of the vertebrae-like details running along the outside of the structure. I borrowed that detail from this drawing from the Eldar codex.

I was actually afraid people were going to think it looked more like a tyranid.

Yes, it's the vertebrae. The rendering makes them look like they have a rectangular cross-section, which can have Necron and Tyranid connotations. Perhaps an elliptical cross-section or other curvey profile would still look space elfy? Dunno.

The vertebrae actually have a slight concave cross-section, like this -> ) (

And, they aren't circular in the plan view, just nearly so. I could exaggerate either curvature more, I suppose.

I fear that having elliptical cross-section (basically reversing the curvature they have now) would just make the vertebrae look like a string of beads, which doesn't look that great.

keep in mind that I will probably fillet the intersection between the vertebrae and the wings/fins. That will result in more of a tear-drop shape in the plan view.

Finally, once I have all the jewels added to it and have all the eldar-bites chopped out, it should still be a passable eldar structure.

here's a render of all the models, with a 60mm round and a 40mm square base in the background.

There is no perspective in this render, so the bases in the background make the part appear smaller than they actually are. In reality, the bunker will just barely fit on the 40mm base, and only if it is rotated just right.

From left to right:
Silo
Bunker
Gate
Comm tower
relay column
sensor array

So ... When will we see these in the flesh ? ;D And pics of any new stuff, if any ?

That's a good question.

I have no idea.

Someone is casting them, but he's a busy guy. There is also the problem that I kind of asked him to make me a bunch for myself. You could PM him to see how far along he's gotten. I believe I even told him that he could fill other people's orders ahead of mine, but I may have buried that in a long text.

I reckon we'll see them soon.

I believe.
