well guys, my vacation is almost over, so maybe I'll have some progress on these soon.

btw, I can't find the older renders (they're probably at home). I may post them tomorrow.

There's been a bit of progress with these, but work has been keeping me busy so not finished yet. I'll keep at them when I find the time.

I have to figure out a good way of attaching one story to the next. I have some ideas, but the devil is in the details.

Updates:

I've completed the random brick patterns for the backsides of the building facades, so I'm ready to start slapping together all of the details into the parts.

There will be three different widths: 2 window, 5 window, and 8 window. Despite the window math, the parts will be 1x, 2x, and 3x multiples of a unit width. The widths are done such that a building that is 1x by 2x will fit two of the current infantry strip bases (12mm x 40mm).

I will produce both open window and solid window facades.

There will be 2 types of building bases for each width: 1 with a doorway and 1 without a doorway.

There will be 2 height additions types for each width: 1-story and 2-story.

There will be a roofline part for each width.

Doing the math gives 36 differrent parts for this style alone. Also, that doesn't include any curved faces that I may do.

Anyway, I sent 4 test parts off to the printers and I should have them by next Monday. Here are two of the parts:

They look great! I'm also working on a modular 6mm building system but using styrene for the masters and will mold/cast in resin. Mine are definitely not as detailed as what you have created. I didn't go with the Gothic design because it isn't easy to create those details by hand.

I'll be done with the masters today but I'm going to post a new topic with pics once I've cast and painted a few of the pieces. There are five different 2" x 2" sections plus three types of connectors (columns and inner/outer corners)

I think you need to drop some of the repetitiveness out of the walls, there's just too much copy and paste on each part. Ie. try dropping every other skull (on the smaller wall you have above) and every other little nub thingy (circle tubes that stick out) it all looks good and all so far. I just think you could save your self some time and money(getting them printed) by dropping a few of the repetitive details that show up a little too much.

This is one of the biggest design decisions I had to make - how much detail is too much versus how much is too little. I definitely intend on removing some of the details that I've added to my test prints, but...

I've noticed that if there is too little detail, the buildings look extremely plain. They need some detail to break up the vertical faces, especially if you want to make 5 or 7+ story buildings. Minimal detailing leads to the buildings looking scratchbuilt. The details are the only thing that shows that they are produced parts. Also, up to a point, the buildings are meant to look imperial, which requires some amount of garish detail.

I ordered a few test prints to see what looks good, and in the end the rule of cool will win. I think I might replace some of the skulls with light fixtures. If anyone can think of other types of small details, don't hesitate to mention them.

Also, if you think there is too much detail, keep in mind that details are easier to remove than they are to add. I actually have more details on the parts than I strictly think looks best simply because I know I can remove them easily if I feel like it.

i think they look fine the way they are but if you wanted something else, how about some imperial eagles?

Well, I got the the test items back from printapart, and they look good. I do have a few minor changes to make, none of which will take too long to do.

I will probably increase the size of the corner columns and column footings a bit, since they came out smaller than I planned. I also want to rotate the roofline corner column caps and make them full spikes instead of the current cutoff pyramids that I show above.

Once I take care of all of that, I think I will send them to ninjamagic and have them investment cast instead of printing them through printapart. The test pieces were a little warped, so maybe if I get them done in bronze, I will be able to maintain a better level of straightness. That means it will take a while for me to get them all done, since investment casting will be kind of expensive.

Pics will have to wait until tomorrow, as my camera's battery pack needs to charge. In any case, you can't see much with the transparent blue print outs.

I will endeavor to post pics tomorrow evening.
