I would have said 2 games per round considering gavin went for it nearly every time as did I and I wouldn't be surprised if at least one other person wasn't using it regularily as well.

However I wouldn't say its a universal change (lots of armies want to be close to their targets), however it is a something I would always do if facing Imperial guard with slow leman russ and WE's. In fact the second anyone with a 'slow' army turns up they will be playing virtually all their games against fast armies if the latter have any sense. I mean why wouldn't you want to make it really bloody hard for them to get your blitz?

Yes I would consider guard for Open war. With only three games there is lass chance of a bad commissar roll making a game damn hard.

I can't help noticing that he would have had 50 points less, no commissars in his warhounds and deathstrikes without their silly omniscient overwatch now, as a result I would be very confident facing that with a sensible marine, ork or Eldar army (well, I'm awful with Eldar but you get the idea).

Out of interest what are the stats since the changes? Any way of extracting them or seeing any trends?

Oh its not that Steve, its just I basically want Tanks, Artillery, mechanised infantry and tactical nuclear weapons so i can field the sort of army you would see in cold war commander in West Germany! Currently it seems such an army (minus the nukes) is more do-able with other races.

With good short range firepower ala netEA I would use them for baseline/close objective defence. They can almost do this as it is. Problem with the upped stats is they would nigh completely eclipse leman Russ, something the EpicUK team no doubt realised.

Well, assuming I scored 21-23 (It was (mostly) an army that once took home "Best Painted" so it can't have scored too low) that puts me about where I remember finishing when the results were announced at the end of the day.

Well if you plan your list for assaulting getting more Commissars is just a bigger bonus.

I wouldn't plan to assault with the guard, however do rely on having around 5 commissars for defence and bm shifting.

In a flight of fancy it would be a lot better if the companies had leader on the command units and the commissars were there for the inspiring bit!

By my reckoning they stand at 10 wins 10 draws and 12 loses since the revised list started this season.

There have been a few earlier Open War events where the judges have missed out players armies from the painting scores, they were overly strict on rosters etc. for a while.

Well like I said, I remember finishing a little below half way on the day, which is where I would be listed if I had a pretty unremarkable 21-23 painting points.

If we go on the championship result (doesn't use soft scores like painting) you did finish 11th.

So I will withdraw my little friendly dig at you finishing 17th and have to settle for a friendly dig at you for finishing 11th but that doesn't quite have the same feel ;) .
