Lissen up, ya gitz! 'Eres wotz new!

Two hutz into the second batch. I've done a 'Block 2' Guard Barracks, as well. Neither of these have doors or wondow's added yet however. I have a Mek Garage underway, as well.

A detail shot of the 2 story hut, showing the .040"x.080" strip I used to cover a mismeasurement. Not much different from the first batch, except instead of Grandt Line bolts, I used the IA: Masterclass water filter method.

A couple of closeups of the Mek's Garage. Several things to note here. The garage has the same dimensions as the larger hutz in the first batch (83mm x 53mm overall). It is 1 story in the rear, and two stories in the front (13mm and 23mm respectively). As I am planning on painting it to match the metal brace in the first batch, I've decided to distress the edges. I did this by randomly draging a triangular needle file across the edges. I tried scribing panel lines on the roof, and it sucked. So it was covered with a piece of tile card I had hanging around. I added a few patches in various places, again distressing the edges. This was given an all-over water filter rivet treatment, being metal construction.

I'm not satisfied with the gaps in the framing around the rolling doors, probably going to add a couple short strips to look like they are held together that way.

Do I need more patches? More rivets? Do you like the effect of the distressing?

Eventually the 1 story hut will probably be the 'offis' to the garage, at the front right of a fenced compound, while the garage sits at the rear left. I've got some ideas for adding scrap piles and buggies to the lot, but that, of course will have to wait until I get the bases cut out...

Just a little bit of progress... but I think the Mek Garage and the Mek Shop are pretty much done, except for windows and doors on the shop.

The garage just needed those strips on the front.

The Mek Shop is the single story hut with a billboard added.

Anything else these should get?

These look great! Maybe adding crane/mek arms to the Mek Shop or garage would be some distinct but purposeful additions.

How did you accomplish the rivet work at this scale?!

@ KaJo

I'm planning on basing them in a largish (20cm x 20cm) fenced in lot, with some skrapheepz an' buggies. That should add to the Orky feel.

I might, if I can figure a good way to do it, do an outdoor pad with mekanikal arms (think a cross between a tellyporta and a dred or lifta-droppa). However, for anything short of a Battlefortress or Gunfortress, cranes across the roof of the garage should be sufficient. Just checked against a Bonecrusha and a Skullhamma - the Bonecrusha will just fit through the door, and a Skullhamma's exhaust rises to 1-2mm above the roofline.

@ TheDean
The rivets are the ceramic spheres out of a water filter. A good tutorial can be found in Imperial Armor: Masterclass. I sank the holes using a .5mm drill bit and superglued them in.

There's a number of ways to cheat at this scale and accomplish some reasonable results without too much work.
One method I've used extensively on a number of my Ork scratch builds is cutting the armor plates from a soft metal i get with my contact lenses. It is similar to the stuf from old metal toothpaste tubes.. Very easy to work with for complex curved shapes (unlike plasticard). Anyway: Cut the piece to shape and punh the rivets into place with a pointy object. The result looks very similar to the old ork odels (which I prefer). The advantage is that you can do A LOT of rivets very quickly this way. This is about the mass effect and not so much the individual detail of each rivet.

I use a similar technique, but use paper-thin p-card instead of foil.  Its perfectly bendable (especially with moderate heat) and shows impression rivets easily.  Filter/glass rivets for 6mm scenery is over the top IMO, but what ever works best for you is always the way to go. :)

There are a number of tools on the market for impression rivets, but I find a screw with a somewhat blunted tip works fabulously for the randomness or Orks.  I'd use a rivet tool for Imperial stuff or mass-produced work.

I've never been a fan of the GW pueblo housing for Orks, but you've done a great job on these.  The garage is a neat bit and I look forward to seeing what you do with that sign. :agree:

What kind of water filter? Like a brita?

I had heard of the other techniques before but have never used them, those are some great orky machines there!

@ TheDean: Yeah, a Brita-style filter. I bought a generic from Walgreens or CVS for about $15. It has beads ranging from ~1mm to ~.1mm or less diameter. Thousands upon thousands; I will probably never run out.

@ Ghudra: The Chicago Bunker has some tables left from a GD; one is a great Ork themed board with some fantastically creative signage on the mek shop. A price list to the effect of "Red Paint - 4 teef, More dakka - 5 teef, etc. Thinking something like that but less involved - maybe a used car lot like name and motto.

Stalled. I'll come back around to it eventually, in my ADHD fueled project hopping.

Sorry.

Necro thread, necro project. In order to keep the buildings from betting banged up, I whipped up a base for them.

You can see where one of the walls broke on the blue building, prompting this. Also redoing other terrain and building new (Imperial) buildings right now.
