Caestus assault ram

So, wait... this thing zooms around like an airplane? I thought it just ballistically smashed into stuff and barfed out its dudes.

The former is lame, the latter is cool.

[per its 40k stats] It appears to be a fast skimmer tank. Think of it like a drop pod that can move around after it lands - it's not fast enough to be considered an aircraft, it's closer to a land speeder or valkyrie.

I also just now noticed that it ignores melta gun effects - so it maybe worthy of a reinforce armour save (I'd suggest 5+RA and not 4+RA).

So basically it's an assaulty wave serpent for SMs.

I'd love to hear the uncleaned up version. Is it very rude?

If anything, this should be some kind of enhanced drop pod - designate drop co-ords then relocate up to 30cm no scatter, that kind of thing. That way it would be a sort of "steerable ballistic" transport.

it is still somewhat my opinion that forgeworld's primary function is to release truly absurd transports for marines (since both their drop pods are even more stupendously overpowered)

I think the two best way to add the Caestus to Epic would be to make it a one shot planetfall transport (kind of like a drop pod with FF abilities), additionally able to assault building and fortifications.

I believe that if you look at the inside cover of Apocalypse Reload, you will see what you are looking for...and E&C has hit it dead on.

As far as the model goes, I like it a lot, not that the design is perfect, but it is odd looking enough to be cool at the same time.

Also for those who need some logic to apply to their universe ;P, in the pre-release rules for this puppy, it states that it has a power generator (or some such) in the front so that as it melts it's way through something, the front of the nose is protected by the equivalent of a shield.

So in general, it's very odd looking, seems underpowered (though we really don't know how landspeeders work either, so maybe not), but if someone were interested in looking into this, I'd be very supportive of that effort.

Notes: Planetfall, Reinforced Armour, Skimmer, Transport (may carry two Infantry units).. The Magna-melta confers the macro-weapon ability to the unit's firefight value.

With those abilities, what's the price point, 100-125pts per model?

I'd suggest 5+ RA instead of 4+ RA, and I'd get the missile launcher 2 shots - it does get 4 blast templates in 40k, so it should be somewhat better than a normal twin-linked missile launcher.

Yes, I'd say 5+ RA only, and I wouldn't make it a skimmer; in a game of epic, it would work better as an immobile one-shot dropship.
The way it is, the missiles and the melta sound like they are built to fire only once, and it doesn't look like it could perform several ramming in a row, so I don't think having it taxiing troops around would be appropriate.

This would also help differentiate it from the Thunderhawk. You would use it as a transport option (must take enough to transport the whole formation) that would allow an air assault with a bit of added MW punch.

Maybe the magna-melta could be +1 MW FF attack instead though.

That would make its stats :

SPACE MARINE CAESTUS ASSAULT RAM

Armoured Vehicle 0cm 5+ 5+ 4+

With 0cm move it would be difficult to use as a transport attached to a formation.
Or finally we have independent non-WarEngine transports.
