There sure as hell isn't any falcons on the back of WD 116, oh wait maybe they are lurking in the caves behind the gnasha gargant, waiting to pop out and blast away at those red goes fasta dreadnoughts - sneaky panzee gitz ;D

On-topic: If anyone has an old farseer falcon lying about collecting dust, do not hesitate to drop me a pm - I'm very much in the market for one of those ;)

Do I have to do everything ?!??! ::) There is a small pic in W/D 115, pg. 46, of what I believe is the metal proto-type Falcon Mk.I. I've seen a better pic ... but can't find it ... ^-^

Oh, don't remind me - THE PAIN - I've lost my WD 115 and I'm a huge Fraser Gray fan :'(

Forgive me for going completely off-topic, but I thought I'd shared this from WD 116. I let the picture speak for itself:

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. NOW lets get back on-topic :)

Although I've never had any confirmation on this I also suspect theere may have been a Metal prototype of the Mk1 plastic falcon. There's a picture from 1st ed. Codex Titanicus (I think) that has some falcons in it. The angle of the rear part of the body looks a bit weird, as does the "lance" weapon. It sort of makes sense though, as a lot of other early stuff had metal versions done for in-house playtesting (Prototype Warlord titan, Space Marine infantry and vehicles, eldar and ork infantry (BTW I suspect the same thing with the Battlewagon), untill production plastics were ready.

And just when I think I'm getting a handle on all the models, someone throws up something else I've not heard of! So there were some metal prototypes of the v1 Falcon? Very interesting - thanks! I'll see if I can track down a WD116 pic (unless anyone is able to post a pic)

L4 - really nice models you've got there. Can you help me out with a couple:

Image

I don't recognise the turret on this - the body (correct me if I'm wrong) is the Deathstalker / Web Weaver body, but where's the turret from? Conversion or somewhere else?

Again, I don't recognise the turrets on these? Conversions?

Want to sell me one of these? ;)

Cheers

There were 3 versions of War Walker (early 1 piece short barrels, the egg on legs, then the 2 piece modern looking version).
I think there are four versions of this model?

SM2 - Cockpit looked like a little egg-shaped pod
TL - Looked like the WH40k 2Ed War Walker, came on a 25mm slottabase
E40k - Newer style, came with three parts each (the legs, the cockpit/weapons and a fin at the back that looked accordion-like)
EA - Remoulding of the E40k version I beleive, mostly lost the "accordion" rear fin.

There were also a number of variant parts for the E40k version - different weapon options, and possibly different legs too I think.

Five. You missed the very first one. It looked like the TL version but was one piece and the barrels of the weapons were short. It came in the same blister as the Banshee/War Cry/Spirit Walker dreads.

Pretty sure the prototype Mk1's feature in this pic too. (Pretty certain really given the photo predates the release of the Eldar plastics :) )

Speaking for L4, but the green one is an Eldar hull mixed with Slaanesh Hell Knight turret. I don't recognise the source of the turret in the second photo though.....BFG?

Yep ... both D/S & Zap are correct ... Eldar Very Limited released X-Vehicles. And the Hell Knight Turret on SM2 Prism Cannon Hull. The Turret on the Mk.1 Plastic Falcons was the original turret that was to go on the SM2 Wave Serpent ... Before the decide on the "Saily" thingy ... ;D

Just to clarify - the turret on plastic Falcons - they are 'actual' GW pieces that were suppose to fit on the flying iron? But then GW decided to redesign and end up with the sail?

They're all really nice pieces. I have the Vampire, Cobra, the various Falcon variants (mine are painted Saim Hann red) from the x-vehicles set - all bar the Deathspinner unfortunately :(

Maybe you could sweet talk Semaj into reverse-engineering some X vehicles?

Yep ... that is an actual G/W piece ... they decided the Sail Thingy looked better on the Wave Serpent Hull then this turret. So I got some and put'm on some extra Plastic Falcon Mk.1s ... ;) (I had a buddy who worked for G/W US, away back when ... ) ;D
