How large are the bases on those minis despot? If they're 1/4" like Epic, you'll be able to fit 8-10 infantry (or 5 cav) on a Warmaster (40x20mm) base. This would make a regiment of Warmaster ~30 individual minis. The last WM game I played (against Undead) had 26 units in the larger army, at 1000pt. That's 780 if pure foot, more likely something like 600 foot and 90 cav.

That's a small game of Warmaster, but makes for a plenty big army for display purposes.

With the Orcs I've started out basing them on 40x20 bases, on which I can fit 15 guys in 3 ranks of 5. Alternately I could do 2 ranks of 5 for only 10 troops, but I like the mass effect at this scale. So with three bases, that would be 45 infantry per unit (actual retail cost of $7.50).

I guess I will shoot for at least 1000 foot to start...only 900 more to go.

As a side note, it seems that thinner troops (the orcs are wide little buggers) could be even more packed onto a base. I did a test stand of viking berserkers and managed to comfortably fit 18 on the base.

One quick note: I find myself slightly bothered by the way GW's warmaster orcs manage to line up so neatly -- it seems to me very un-orclike.

Perhaps 12 or 13 to a base, somewhat jumbled together?

That's funny, I had someone over yesterday looking at the test arrangement on the stand and he said the same thing! I guess when I finally glue them on I will make them in a rabble. I think for the spearmen I may go in ranks though, not sure they will look right all mixed up.

Steve, I think army pics will help a lot. People who do a lot of 28mm gaming will look at the pics of a couple of 6mm figures, and just see them as less detailed versions of what they already use. They need to see the mass effect to see what 6mm is all about. It'll also show that things like giants really tower over the troops in 6mm too.

I've taken a few pics of my orcs, use them if they're any good for you. I'm running badly behind on painting my other armies though - I will finish them one day, honest! :-[

Anyway; pics:

I really like your 6mm fantasy products, the only thing that stops me buying a lot is having my limited spending committed to scif-fi already.

Id really like to see some 6mm fantasy high/dark elves/humans... irregular do some i think but the awful pictures of thier 6mm on thier site put me off, baccus do 6mm elves as well, but i found them poorly cast and out of scale (10mm in places...) your stuff on the other hand is always awesome ;D Id also like to see some 6mm fantasy monsters, dragons, manticores etc, not necessarily aligned to a specific faction.

The main hangup I had about 6mm gaming was the characters.

I like modelling, I'm coming to like painting and I like my models to have character.

It took a while before I realised that the Superheavies, the war engines were the characters.
And they need a horde about their feet to show the scale.

Pictures, group shots, diaoramas, ect.
There is a wave going through the fantasy population at the moment - new GW edition, mantic games (building bigger armies).

ride the wave.

Put pictures up in flicker if you have to with links from your site. Pics are essential, including close ups, for me.

A 6mm varient of warmaster sounds the best bit - the warmaster ancients mod could be the thing as the original fantasy version has a few flaws.
Then make sure your local club is onside and get them to smash through a few playtests, then stick the mod up on the site along with a link to the core rulebook? (Or sell it yourself?)

At the very least have a list of systems in which your models can be used up with them, find out where those systems live ont he web and get some links back to yourself?

Dadi & Piombo's website lists a range of set armies for their basic Impetus (and potentially Basic Impetus Fantasy) army lists. They also provide links to mini manufacturers who sell an army pack appropriate for that list.
