This is a beautifully themed army.

It's an inspiration to see a fully painted, customised army like this.

Make sure you take your camera when you play those games!

Agree with all the comments, this is an outstanding looking army!

I'm sure Neal would be excited to see a beautiful army like this testing out his Thousand Sons list.  :)

In the end, I only managed to get the one game in and that was with my Eldar, so no in-action pics of this army I'm afraid.

I do, however, have some more pics! I've been adding some more stuff to this army, starting, funnily enough, at about the same time as TacComms went down. I would have tried to do a plog on Warseer instead, but it seems you need some number of posts before you can post images, and posts with links in them need moderator approval before they appear. So I've had to wait until TacComms was back up to post this.

This expansion was triggered by two things. Firstly, the fact I needed another retinue to make my army legal under the current NetEA version of the Black Legion army list, and secondly as a result of Forge World producing some more of their Warhound Titans.

Therefore, my first new addition was this pair of Feral Titans:
Image
These are really nice models, although it's a little too easy to make them look horribly off-balance, as if they're about to fall over onto their faces. Adding tails, as well as making them look more Chaotic, was pretty much necessary to balance them.

For some reason the photo has made the mould line on the tail of the one on the right much more visible than it is in reality.

Having painted these two up, I got out my Ravager conversion and concluded that it needed a bit of work. It showed that parts of the paint-job were done several years ago when my painting skills were not up to much, and the base was a little too plain and lacking in scenic detail. I don't like excessively detailed diorama-style bases for gaming figures (although they're great for models intended purely for display), but on a large base like this one, a little bit of detail is necessary. So I touched up the paint-job a little and re-based the model. Here it is:

Image

While I was working on War Engines, this seemed like a good time to convert some Death Wheels. I put together one, but didn't have enough 40mm bases for any more, so I ordered some more from GW, along with the infantry I was going to need to make the army legal.

While waiting for those to turn up, I converted up some objective markers. I did some of these for the Eldar, and had always intended to do the same for my Chaos army but hadn't got around to it.

So after a few days the remaining bits turned up and I was able to finish off a Deathwheel Squadron:
Image
I must admit, the design for these is completely ripped off from Cthulhu_gump's, shown here. I'd have liked to be a bit more creative, but I couldn't find enough suitable parts in my bits box(es), so in the end I just went with the straight-up steal. The only major difference is that I haven't added the ring of spikes. I haven't really gone for much in the way of spikes on this army, so they might well have looked out of place anyway.

I would have gone with a full Squadron of three, but only had enough tracks for two. I may add a third at some later date, or I may not. Who knows?

Having done lots of exciting War Engines, it was now time to knuckle down and get some more infantry done. First up, a detachment of Havocs:
Image
The Rhinos were actually painted back in September, as I had a few spares.

Following those, another Retinue, which makes the army legal again:
Image
For now there aren't any Rhinos for these guys; they'll have to slog it out on foot. I've included both a Lord and Sorcerer Lord for the retinue, and an option for an Icon Bearer. No Champion, though, as I'm out of Space Marine Chaplains to convert them from.

I also have another four stands of Flamers, bringing the total up to twelve:
Image

Finally, I added this squadron of Hellblade fighters:
Image
These brought the new points total of the army up to 8,065, not including Daemonic pacts (which would be allocated on a game-by-game basis).

The next thing to add will be a Daemon Prince. I tried to convert one out of an Imperial Robot and a Chaos Terminator, but it came out looking fairly poor, so I'm going to use a Warmaster one instead. After that, though, I'm not sure.

The obvious thing that's missing is a Warplord Titan. I'd certainly like to do one, but that would mean that my army would be more than 1/3 War Engines. Now, admittedly, it's very unlikely that I'll ever actually be using the whole army at once in a game, but I still like to know that in theory at least, I not only have however many points' worth of stuff, but that I actually have a legal army at that points value. So it might be worth doing some other stuff before adding the Warplord.

An armoured company of Chaos Predators is another possibility, but presents a challenge in terms of models. I'm keen to stick with E40k-era models or older for the AVs in this army, keeping the current vehicle designs for an Imperial SM army should I ever get around to doing one. I'm also keen for all the models to be equipped with the weapons that the rules say that they have. This will make putting together a company of eight Predators difficult.

So I'm not sure yet. But at just over 8,000 points, I'm fairly happy with the army as it is for now anyway. Once I've got the Daemon Prince done, I might see about doing some new whole-army shots.

Great to see continued work on these, the flames on the lower rim of the death wheels are a nice touch.

Been a bit quiet on the Epic painting front lately; I've been distracted by 54mm vampires, alien huntsmen, some Chaos vehicles for 40k and such. But I have at last managed to get that Daemon Prince painted up.
Image

Since this is an infantry unit I added a couple of Terminators to the base to make it legal. I think the Epic Daemon Prince unit was originally intended to represent a slightly smaller daemon than this one, but it's a cool model, so I'm not that bothered.

I'd been considering re-doing the whole-army shots at this point, but I think I'm going to hold off on that for a bit longer. Partly to wait until the NetEA chaos list is frozen so that I know whether to keep my Stalker conversions or not, and partly because there are a few other things I'd quite like to add first.

I like the Daemon Prince... So much better colour scheme than the one on the GW site... I didn't even recognise it at first..

Excellent stuff there AxelFendersson. I must admit, finding your blog and seeing your titans, then the rest of your epic stuff, was one of the prime motivators to start the game. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be adding next.

Wow. I'm delighted, flattered and weirdly humbled at the same time. :D

The daemon prince looks fantastic. I had second thoughts about that model myself, but your painting puts my doubts to shame.

Been a little while since I made any progress on this army. I got some more infantry over a month ago, but it's mostly just stood on my desk making me feel guilty. Getting a couple of War Engines and telling myself I wasn't allowed to paint those until I'd done the infantry didn't seem to help. But this week I finally knuckled down and painted up this retinue of Chaos Space Marines:
Image
As before, there's both a Lord and a Sorcerer Lord, and an option for an Icon Bearer, who has his own Rhino.

This leaves me with a definite plan for the rest of this army. Next up will be a third Deathwheel. Also sitting on my desk in the painting queue is some more infantry — some Havocs, a formation of Chosen and four more stands of Flamers — and a Warplord Titan that I've converted from the Lucius pattern Warlord.

After that it'll just be a case of filing in a few gaps. I'd like to add a couple more stands of Raptors and two more Land Raiders, to bring both of those formations up to eight units each. And I'll probably get a few Warmaster screamers, which I'll count as Daemonic Beasts in the list. And finally, I plan to do a company of Chaos Predators.

After that, it'll be over 10,000 points and I intend to call the army finished. I've never had an army that I considered 'done' before. There have been forces that I've decided were 'done for now' and that I was going to leave to concentrate on something else for a while, but never an army where I've felt that any further expansion would be redundant: there's always been something I'd like to add. It's quite exciting, really.

^ Thanks, man.

Progress continues to be slow, but I have now got that third Deathwheel painted:
Image

And here it is in a squadron with the other two:
Image

Not completely happy with this one, modelling-wise; the tracks at the front are a bit crooked. Still, it's not too bad.

Not sure whether to try and get some infantry done next, or get straight on and do the Warplord. In some respects I'd like to have the Warplord done by next weekend, since I'll be seeing some friends who also play and it'd be nice to have it available then. But if I do that before I finish off the infantry, I have a nasty feeling that the infantry will never get done.

Hook into the Infantry then, and have your Warplord as a final treat for getting the Infantry completed :)

These Deathwheels look superb. You've done an excellent job on the flames!
