Urgh. Well it would have been one of those shortly after the release of E40k. What would that have been 210ish-215ish? I'm on thin ice here, but I think the Ork and Marine army boxes were released at the same time, and possibly before the Eldar release...but again I'm by no means sure!

Yeah, in E40k formations could consist of almost any combination of different units; there weren't generally any set formations besides single war engines. The idea was that each formation would look like a W40K army in miniature. With E40k's very abstract ruleset, that kind of flexibility wasn't a problem as units all tended to behave quite similarly anyway.
