Zog,

Your army looks good but your 4,000pt army list is incorrect. You've got two Gargants (650pts each) and a formation of Fightaz (200pts). This equals 1,500pts of Titans and aircraft (over the 1/3 limit for 4,000pts).

Just thought I'd check ... anyway I should know all about the 1/3 limit for Titans and Aircraft after last year  :)

A really great tournament and weekend, big thanks to our Belgian hosts for putting on such a wonderful event and being so friendly. A slightly different format to last year this time it was a three game 3000pts tournament followed by a giant battle on the Sunday.

The Dinner on the Saturday was great, most of the players from the epic tournament went and it was basically to a big hotel/lodge at waterloo, the food was very high quality, much epic was talked about and wine consumed. After that a bunch of us drove back into brussels central and had a few beers.

My list
Aspect Warhost + Exarch + Autarch
Aspect Warhost + 2 Exarch
Aspect Warhost + 2 Exarch
Guardian Warhost
Ranger Troupe
Falcon Troupe (2 Firestorms)
Falcon Troupe (2 Firestorms)
Windrider Troupe
Vampire
Vampire
Void Spinner
Void Spinner

The three games I played were

Game 1. Me (Biel Tan Eldar) vs Yann (Biel-Tan Eldar)

So first up was a player using a warlock titan army along with some falcons, an Autarch in shining spears, few aspect troupes, storm serpent, some guardians I think, warwalkers – it topped out at about 10 activations mostly because of the aspect troupes. Basically followed the standard play against warlocks, I set up as far from it as possible with the objectives spread wide and then spent two turns avoiding it while destroying the fragile formations around it eventually changing to all out crossfire attack on the warlock once its support was gone.

Won this 4-0 (Take and Hold, Blitz, Break their Spirit, Defend the Flag)

Game 2. Me (Biel-Tan Eldar) vs Thomas (Black Legion)

Next was a game against a guy I played last year as well, using a drop pod assault list with a big mech infantry formation and armour formations all with stalkers in support – also uses the very different French daemon rules were they are effectively formations that you can teleport onto the battlefield at any time within 15cm of an icon bearer and they do so automatically. His list had a formation of 8 plague bearers and a greater daemon of Slannesh.

Drop pod armies are always a bit hit and miss, but in this case he just had very bad luck. Having plotted his drop right on top of my eldar armies starting position, and knowing this teleporting terminators and summoning daemons into good positions to attack – he then won the strategy roll before failing to activate his space craft on a 1 and using his reroll to get a 1 again.

After this I just picked off the stuff in front of my lines with assaults and shooting and then concentrating on his mechanised support which moved forward to be ready for next turn to support his drop when it did arrive.

He won strategy again in the second turn and his drop duly arrived with more teleporting termies in support and although his attack from this proved pretty effective and indeed his termies destroyed my supreme commander and BTS before a warband began to break down the eldar void spinner castle. It was just not quite a decisive strike (although the fact all my formations began to fail to activate at this point certainly made it closer than it could have been). I wiped out the warband and continued to batter the big mech warband which was the BTS, breaking it and leaving him with only half a dozen marines and his warlord cowering in cover near his blitz.

The terminators unfortunately survived concerted attacks and rallied to destroy another aspect warhost in the third turn. But by then it was too late as the final eldar air assault crashed down onto the chaos BTS slaughtering them and moving their full move onto the chaos blitz.

Won 3-1 (Defend the Flag, Blitz, Break their Spirit vs Break their Spirit)

Game 3. Me (Biel-Tan Eldar) vs Christophe (Biel-Tan Eldar)

Christophe had a list that was very similar to mine with the same activations and void spinner castle combined with aspects and falcons in support, although the French also really like storm serpents so he had one of these as well.

In the first turn we exchanged long range fire both going after the void spinners which resulted in me destroying one of his on a critical and him breaking one of mine and leaving it with 1 hit point, then Christophe seeing no obvious ground targets to assault (they were all in the gate or getting ready to teleport turn 2), sent both his vampires on ground shooting missions (one of which was carrying guardians), their fire killed a vyper and was the finishing blow to my broken void spinner. But he forgot I had yet to move some falcons which doubled forward to shoot at the storm serpent but more importantly put themselves in position to hit the vampires as they disengaged.

A guardian loaded vampire took two hits and failed both armour saves and crashed and burned destroying two activations in a single moment this combined with his void spinner loss and another guardian formation being destroyed by aspects as my last activation meant that I had destroyed 4 activations for the loss of 1 activation in the first turn.

Although he won strategy next turn and attacked back well destroying an aspect warhost and breaking some falcons in his first two activations he was never able to make up the deficit from the first turn as we exchanged destroyed and broken formations eventually in the third turn he was left with too few activations to hold every objective and as he was forced to move into difficult positions to effectively dispute, his BTS aspect formation was caught and destroyed and I cleared all the enemy from the objectives in my half.

2-0 Win (Break their spirit, Defend the flag)

Three very good games against very nice opponents and I had managed to get the win as well to keep up the tradition started by Matt last year although it must be said that if there had been a team trophy this year, France I think would have won as they took 2nd, 3rd and 5th.

I also managed to win best painted.

The mega game that followed was good fun with evil facing off against good in a 16000pts show down and another 12000pts game running simultaneously, evil came out on top thanks mostly to the carnage five ork landas caused in the first turn.

All in all a great weekends war gaming

Sounds like an awesome time had by all. I'm quite jealous.

So, what where the overall results? Just interested...

Could you elaborate on what a "Void Spinner Castle" is?

Thanks for the report!

Its two individual Void spinners set up 6 cm's apart surrounded by rangers at a distance of 6 cm's on overwatch generally sat on my blitz with 2 formations of falcons with firestorms nearby to give air cover, Void spinner castle is just what I call it, sorry for the confusion.
