Starfire, where art thou?

More polygons.

To do:
Detail aft part of sphere
Rework side junction between collar and sphere
Make special pluggy doo-dads where collar and sphere meet
Figure out how to separate this to make it more castable

That's looking pretty sweet! The extra detail on the front sphere gives a great sense of scale to the entire thing. Coming along just fine, just fine indeed.

I'm conferring with the other Todd about split lines. This thing would be much easier to do in 2 pieces due to air and material flow issues.

The SD is 66mm long. Since the sphere part has a 12mm radius, that also governs the max height and width - 24mm.

First semi-functional cast made. Rear engine detail isn't as crisp as desired, but rest of model looks good. Kind of drunk when Yen and I pulled it from the mold, so memory sketchy.

Front section will also make a nice piece of 6mm terrain.

Points of improvement if metal is desired:

Need to find center of gravity and make docking hole there.
Resplit sphere along equator; metal mold couldn't handle current split.
Insert 'ribs' into sphere hollows for strength during vulcanization.
Add a few gubbins to bottom engine section.

Ready for printing.

Won't an equatorial split cause problems with funky moldlines along the braces around the sphere? Or will it need to be remodeled?

Too bad this didn't work out as is. It's a sweet model. Wasn't sure at first, but it turned out great.

You get my PM?
