Recent e-mail between me & WGF ...                                                                                                                                                                           ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We want to make sure the detail is very, very crisp at that size. We'll let everyone know schedule soon."

"Thanks again,
Tony"

We're thrilled to announce that our newest hard plastic 28mm figure set - our 12th since October 2008 - has launched...with a twist!

While we prepare the package design and get ready to bring out the first two Viking sets - we wanted to show off the figures. To do this, we've put three unique sprues into a mini-sampler set that allows you to build 8 complete Vikings. 4 in chainmail and 4 unarmored along with loads of weapons, heads, shields, standards, and more to completely outfit the figures. You can build spearmen, swordmen, bowmen, axemen (including double-handed poses), and full command! Check them out HERE!

Here's what Larry F. from San Antonio, Texas had to say about them: "Got my Viking sampler today and almost fell out of my chair! Easily these are the cleanest and most detailed figures WF has produced yet and show a significant amount of internal growth and dedication to product quality in the scant year since I got my Romans. Super congratulations! At this rate, I can see no competition for WF in this space based on the quality alone. A loyal and lifelong client!"

Thanks Larry!

As always, we are offering flat rate shipping for $5.95 in the USA and $10.95 for the rest of the world. Shipping is free if your order is over $100 (for the math challenged (like me) that's 21 sets or 168 Vikes - but, then again, you can always just add in some of the other 11 hard plastic sets to get the free shipping!)

Grab the Vikings HERE!

Who are we?
Wargames Factory produces hard plastic multi-part 28mm miniatures for wargamers, modelers, dioramists, painters, and collectors. Our first set, Caesar's Legions, was introduced in October 2008 and we have released 11 more hard plastic sets since. Our latest set, Ancient German Cavalry, features 12 horses and riders with loads of weapons, heads, and options for $19.95. You can see them here. The Vikings will be released in two separate sets - and on deck are two new sets featuring Saxons!

Given the improvement between their 28mm Romans and their 28mm Vikings, there's some reason to take them seriously when they say they wanted to retool and improve their first 6mm release.

I agree with that, the quality of the Vikings is excellent. Not to mention what their asking price for them is. It sort of flies in the face of GW's "the price rise is due to gas prices" or their myriad of other explanations.

I thought GW's reasoning was covered in the last financial statement when the chairman said "There is no reason to charge less for plastic figures just because they are plastic" (or words to that effect)!

So in GW world the cost of the materials that make a model should have no bearing on the retail price of the model. Nice to have a captive sales base isn't it!

Yes, but that did follow the announcement of GW moving towards a load more plastics, justified by 'we can give you more minis for your money this way'. Kirby speak with forked tongue!

I think what they meant was, "We can produce the minis cheaper, and then charge you the same or more!"

Wargames Factory, on the other hand, has been fairly reliable so far. The only hiccups seem to stem from the relative size of the operation and sheer volume of orders they've had.

I gifted them a 15mm scale file as well.  That should be easier to machine, and would probably sell like hotcakes, even if its just a rank-and-file sprue of the Deathbot troopers.

I'm still looking forward to seeing these.

Best,
JBR

I haven't heard a peep from WGF, beyond the updates in their forum, but my fingers are crossed just like yours.

I've been doing some minor 6mm related stuff.  A gatling-armed tank and an upcoming APC sibling.  I've set up a little Shapeways shop to get them made via production-on-demand.  Too expensive for army-wide use, but a nifty little tank nonetheless (pricing is automated, and crazy insane, but prices might come down someday)...

By the time they finally get to responding, all the items have been bought through other retailers.

I do not know if I have an interest in these sprues anymore. They appeared sub-par back then, and now appear quite limited in usefulness now that I have other retailers....

The things for people to keep in mind about Shapeways are:
1) Strong white and flexible sucks
2) The shipping is included in the price, and is crazy good.
