Over the past year I've proven to myself that doing one of these work log threads is possible. I managed to attend somewhere between 80-90% of the "Monday Painting Nights" hosted by my friendly local game store, and painted over 5k worth of my Marines.

For whatever reason though, I just couldn't seem to start taking pictures of what I've been working on. So, that's what I'm going to work on this year. Last year was getting into a regular painting schedule, this year is taking pictures of what I paint (baby steps Bob, baby steps).

The plan, therefor, is this:

1) Paint on Mondays
2)
3) Profit/Post pictures on Fridays

I might manage a few more hours of work between Tuesday and Thursdays, hence the delay in posting pics. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

So, appropriately enough, my first set of pictures don't involve paint at all. January is going to be a modeling and assembly month for me. I hope to finish the last few ground units for my Marines as well as my Necron Phalanx upgrades.

First off are my Land Raiders. I never liked that access doors were in front of the Twin Lascannons (in fact TSOALR poked fun of this on a couple of occasions). So, while I was cleaning up the model, I moved the guns forward and cut some plasticard doors.

Image

These are my Sniper Scouts. I got the idea of using plasticard rod for silencers from WmN. I'm going to be using the rest of the Shadow Knights I have for my regular scouts. They're going to take some more conversion work though.

Image

For those of you who haven't realized it, Edenite Heavy Infantry make great Necron Immortal proxies! I used the axe/sword from SM/TL Beastmen for bayonets. Eight more stands of these to go.

Image

Finally, my Necron Lord proxy using an Edenite Assault Sergeant. Again I used the Beastmen axe/sword to create the Staff of Light. All 6 of these stands are are done, along with all the regular stands. So that's 6 activations of Necrons done.

[Land Raider Pic]

Now *that* is the way the new Land Raiders *should* look!

Did you dremel out the forward door areas to make a recess for the lascannons, Dave, or did you do something else?

Nope, just cut the detail sticking out of the doors off and filed down the back side of the sponson. Then just lined the sponson up with the door lines and glued.

The mold lines on these are terrible so between doing this and adding the plasticard doors alot of them were hidden.

Yeah, there are some brutal mold lines on mine as well.

What thickness plasticard did you use for the doors and would it be possible to get a close-up of them?

Thanks!

Also are the bases home made or ordered from somewhere?

Yep ... the las-cannons in front of the doors not over them ... that's the way to go !  :agree:   Again ... what was G/W thinking by putting it the other way around !?   :(    :blues:

@Chroma, - Not sure on the thickness, the strip came out of an Evergreen sampler pack. Probably .25 or .38mm though. I'll see about a close up shot, I won't be able to post it over the weekend though. What angle are you looking for?

@Mephiston - They're Litko 20x30mm .8mm thick plywood for the Land Raiders and 20x40mm for the infantry. I drilled 1/4" holes through the plywood to recess the infantry and used the magnetic bases stuck to the bottom of them.

Full side view, if possible; I wanna see the detailing.  Thanks!

Nice use of the Litko bases... I've been hunting for the epic strip bases but not having any luck. I hadn't thought of Litko. I used them for my Napoleonic armies, should still have some lying around actually.

The Land Raiders look great too. Can we get some of your old painted pics?  :grinning:

Sure, they're in my Picasa web albums:

http://picasaweb.google.com/the.epic.gamer/Subjugators#

http://picasaweb.google.com/the.epic.gamer/Epicomp2009#

The green Marines there, red and white Warhound, and Necrons are mine. The rest are Matt's (aka captPiett).

I've got the Land Raiders, Scouts, 3 Thunderhawks, a Landing Craft and 2 more Dreads to go. After that I was planning on doing a completed photo shoot.

Lovely work on that Warhound. The white of the carapace is particularly nice.

Why did you decide on 4 models per base for your necrons? I'm doing the same with my Skitarii so I'm not criticising you for skimping on models, I'm just curious as to why you decided on 4 to a base.

Thanks, that white took two coats of grey and 3-4 coats of white.

As to the 4 per base... Chaos Androids are hard to come by, plus it stretches them out. I did the same for my Tyranids.

I'm also of the "4 per stand" camp, sometimes 2 or 3 as I like the randomness it gives a formation...well that and the figures go farther, especially if you are doing Krieg.

Very clever on your Landraiders. I know with my 40K versions, there was the decision point of "cool vs. rule", i.e. do you put them upfront because that's more advantageous in the game or put them in the back because the vehicle looks more balanced that way?

I went with "cool", but I do like how yours turned out. I'm glad we don't have to deal with that kind of stuff in Epic.

@L4: You know what happens when you start looking at the 40K universe logically don't you? Yep, migraines. Save yourself the pain, my friend.

Looking forward to seeing more good stuff.

Yeah ... I know ...    But after being around so many AFVs when I was in the Army, I can't help looking at some of G/W's (foolish!) machinations and saying to myself,  "Wot Da Frakk !?!??!"   :suspect:   Now, since I saw Dave's, I'm going to have to think more seriously about mounting the cannons in front ...
